Distin absent from training.

Can there be any doubt now that the centre of defence is going to be transformed in the next two windows, though? That's a task Martinez should have had up and running this summer but he failed to act. All he did was to punt Duffy...which looks like a great decision now, btw.

We need Distin, Jagielka and Alcarez out the door in the next two windows.
Duffy ain't all that Dave.... Believe me . Not the answer at all.

With what? The banks gotta be dry now. All this talk of just replacing players with signings is a bit optimistic
Na, gone are the days of premier league clubs with no cash. Just wish we could of brought in a centre back in August. Distin been great but been on the decline and makin a bit of a tit of himself for a while now.

Micah Richards should have been top of the list alongside Nastasic and possibly even Shawcross. In my humble, but sincere opinion.

Where we'd find the £18m to do that like...

I'll be quite gutted if this turns out to be true. Stones should be one of our starting CBs now but tbh I thought it would be Jagielka to make way, as he was fairly poor towards the end of last season and in the WC. Distin has been a very important player for years now and if he's taken being dropped badly then it's a big shame all around really.

He came here on the cheap, most of us thought he will be here for couple of years, instead he played 5 full seasons and he was great in those 5 years

He served more than expected, his time was going to come sooner than later, he is 37 and even if this news is false, the time has come and he, we and Roberto know this, hope he stays till the end of the season and leaves after he gets the thank you from the fans

Hope this isn't true and it is just a knock that has kept him out of training. Although he has a bit of a temper, always thought of him as one of those people that blow up and then quickly calm down rather than someone who would nurse a grudge.

He was our best defender last season and despite being erratic recently we'll need him over the course of the season especially as he keeps himself in excellent shape and is rarely injured.

Gonna be a lot of backtracking when this turns out to be bollocks and he comes back and destroys opposition attackers for the rest of the season.

Distin has been a fantastic player for us, his legs haven't gone yet but his decision making has been suspect this season.

Be gutted if this is true but it's more likely to be bol!@cks (or he's been given time to chill and hasn't actually fallen out with Martinez as such)

As much as I can't stand distin this season I hope he wasn't singled out but jags not, martinez has been public in his support of jags yet he was diabolical against Chelsea the worst performance from a single player I've seen in a long while (also at fault for the Krasnador goal and another one this season I can't remember)

Bloody Nora! I agree with you, Jags has been just as ropey, if not worse.

Will be back in the squad for villa

i'd hate for sylvain to end his everton career on a low. got to be honest, he hasn't been as bad as jagielka and should be starting alongside stones imo

Sorry for the relatively large number of quotes, but these are the comments that stand out as being sensible in this thread.

Distin made ONE mistake against Swansea, and it was a howler which cost us a goal. But otherwise, he had a good game. Looking at the other games he's played in this season, he was better than Jags in every single one. In fact, Jags has been specifically individually at fault for significantly more goals than Distin this year.

It's no coincidence that our best partnership from last year, Stones and Distin, has not been deployed and we have found ourselves leaking goals as a result (other factors have also been involved, like Barry being awful in the first three games). Yes Distin is on his last legs and cannot be the plan A for us next year, but sadly I think the same is true for Jags, and Alcaraz doesn't merit any serious consideration as a starter in the Prem.

If I was Distin and Bobby gave me an earful after the Swansea match, despite NOT dropping Jags after the Chelsea debacle, I would have been seriously cheesed off. I'm not saying that I would throw a tantrum or refuse to train / play, but I would definitely say something.

lol no...

Am I eating my words now? Cheers, lid...
It wasn't just his missed penalty - those things happen. It was just his general play - looked far more suited to American football than association football. He was playing as a RB though, might have been OK as as CB but his positioning was dreadful in all the games I saw which is kind of important for a CB.

Pity as when he was getting into the RB position for England he looked good.

He had the touch of a baby elephant when i watched him in preseason, looked like a wwe wrestler too

Distin has fell off a cliff this season but he,s not the only one who has struggled for form !

TBH, I had my money on jags being the one who is fed up with results and what he is seeing in training at FF.

Richards? Always out on the injury table, been struggling for fitness with Fiorentina. Wouldn't play as back-up to Coleman.

Nastasic rejected our loan offer. I'd bite your arm off to take him in January though but again we'd have to pay through the nose.

Shawcross is an integral part of a Stoke side and captain. I'd honestly be surprised to see him go for less than £15 million

No idea why he'd bulked up so much, especially his upper body, it is not even needed at Cb as Stones has shown.

Seems to have comprised his pace (one his best attributes) and with his injury history the last thing you'd think you'd want to do is haul all that weight up and down the pitch for 90mins.

So we shouldn't have addressed the fact we only had one striker (not even fit) on the books and should have prioritised defensive recruitments (for the 3rd tightest defence in the league) over it?

What utter nonsense.
