New report from Kick It Out shows a sharp increase in the amount of reported racial and sexual abuse in the professional game last season (19-20). This is a massive problem and one that doesn't seem to be getting better (maybe even worse, given the publicity it's getting). Don't know how we collectively as football fans/players/clubs etc. solve this.

Tbf 90% of racial abuse has temporarily been reduced since anfield was closed to the public. Maybe just keep it that way?

What about skater abuse? There has also been a lot of abuse about ghost players like Gylfi too. It seems to me we are decriminating against who we are targeting discrimination against.

My real answer is that it's endemic is society. It's the age old argument. Maybe people are reporting it more because they understand it's unacceptable. So following a spike of reports people's behaviour will change and it will reduce.
I hope that the reason as you suggest, is that it's becoming more more unacceptable to tolerate racism and sexism, and reporting incidents are being treated more seriously.

I think the same logic can be applied as the coronavirus, the more testing you do, the more cases you'll report. Hopefully this is the case and they can be ratted out and prosecuted. I guess we'll see the results in the next few years rather than immediately.

Well, when you see the derogoratory comments on this forum (99% in jest of course) against Welsh, Scots, gingers, Australians etc, is it really any surprise to find out that people also disciminate against blacks and women?

Hate to say it, but racism, sexism, ageism et al will never go away (in terms of verbal abuse). People always use characteristics of a person to insult them and always will.

The only thing we can stop effectively is the people who genuinely hate and want to do something against those people.

not sure this is the right thread for this, but thought this was a very good article and Ferdinand makes an awful lot of sense:

Personally I think they should stop it, I hate racists, taking a knee before a football match does nothing to combat racism, it's pointless virtue signalling.
