Depth of our squad

The squad needs consolidation. I expect we'll see at least one player leave in January to start clearing out room for next summer.

-24 players need registration this week.
-4 unregistered players will need to be registered next year (Stones, Browning, Deulofeu, plus Garbutt if he doesn't go on loan).
-6 players out of contract after the season (Osman, Oviedo, Gibson, Pienaar, Kone, Hibbert).

That would leave room for only three overage additions, assuming none of those six players gets a new contract.

hmm, think it's more to do with injuries to be honest. would rather that than have £80m worth of signings only good enough for the reserves like liverpool. Imagine how depressing that must be. if you choose our starting 11, 7 on the bench, we still have players like garbutt, hibbert, osman, naismith, pienaar, mcgeady, leandro etc. not even in the 18. everyone will say they're crap yeah, but they could get in a few prem teams. i don't think our squad depth is that bad - especially considering we're not in europe and never have money. when you factor in that a lot of our squad is young and we have a lot of good youngsters coming through it's of no concern at all.

Just looking at the article on footy365 and they are looking at all the first team players in the Premiership who haven't made the bench yet.

Scroll down to Everton for the true depth we have in our squad.

I know we do have a lack of squad depth, but considering the amount of injuries atm its kind of misleading. It does though show why we couldn't handle Europa and prem last season. Need a squad to cope with these injuries. Although it must be said lot of the players isn't exactly true as some have fallen out with managers, are completely unfit and havbt played for 3 years etc and wouldn't get a seat on the bench above some random from there academies.. See amalfitano, nzogbia, yakubu... Oh wait! :p

Seeing a lot of negativity about browning etc, I quite like the fact we're bringing these player through. IMO we let players go too quickly atm, some aren't everton quality but would do a job here and there for not big wages. People like akpan, who played prem with reading could be kept on a bit of possible and loaned out. May never be everton quality but they add depth for the odd game here and there.we seem to abandon ship if there not ready by 18/19. Think lundstram, green, Baxter, kissock all were 'destined' for big things. Even if they don't reach those heights they could be good squad players surely???

Hibbert, Baines,Gibson,Cleverley,Osman, Galloway and Pienaar.
After just a handful of games that is an horrific injury list , but we all know that four of them are very probably in their last season at Everton.

Of course we also have three new players available to us now in Mori, Rodriques and Lennon and we almost changed the team completely against Barnsley.

We do not have a small squad , but maybe not the best balanced.

The squad looks massive at the moment, but we have a few players entering their last year and a few players that we might be looking at shifting out if possible.

Hibbert, Gibson, Oviedo, Osman, Pienaar, Kone all entering their final year.

I will cry real tears if any of them, bar Oviedo are offered a new deal.

Suspect this will be Barry and possibly Howards last year.

What if Kone bags double digits?

On very current form, Kone deserves a bit more patience. When he's sharp, he looks good.

He does seem to tire though. I think we should reserve judgment until the the end of the season.

He's definitely in the last chance saloon like, but he's putting up a good fight so far. I don't think many of us would have predicted that 2 months ago, like.

Keeping Oviedo is a no-brainer. He's a player. The injuries are nothing more than him struggling to recover from a horrific leg break. He deserves more of a chance.

Hes had his chance, hes currently taking it, I hope he continues the form hes showed in glimpses this season, but hes still pretty terrible, lots not beat around the bush here, plus he will be 32 in November.

He's not been "pretty terrible" at all this season. He's looked very decent at times. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to last past the first half, so I sort of agree with you.

However, if we can get ten 90 minute performances out of him this season, then I think he can well redeem himself.

Hes got a part to play this season, lets hope he plays well, but either way, I would really enjoy seeing him leave.
