that’s a good read. So does it hold that moving away from the wall disrupts this?

No coincidence that West Ham hardly ever concede from set pieces.....I wondered if we did it to protect Pickford, surely it only takes an opposition player to get to the ball ahead of ours and we’re in trouble. I imagine VAR helps because it notices defenders getting blocked off (the Reds always got away with this).
Moyes was the best, I remember Jagielka saying they were so well drilled we didn’t concede from a set play for two seasons.
Because we have giants
Maybe in part because once we head it out there's no space behind the defence so our lumbering centre backs can't then get done for pace?
Less danger from one of their runners getting a free header if the defenders don't have to track them because they are already there, and again, any recycled/second attempts shouldn't catch us out as we are already in position. Any crosses or shots from outside have to go into/through a very congested area. Normally you might not want to sit this deep as it lets the attackers get a running jump, but as mentioned several times we have a pretty tall team, so there is less threat of our defenders being out-jumped. You do lose the ability to trap people offside, but that requires high discipline, especially in these kind of situations, and one player can easily break the chain and play everyone onside, so that is another risk mitigated.the lower line are already in their natural defensive shape
