Just reading the Mustafi thread and was thinking about our young defenders coming through.

Stones -- Going to be World Class. May have a second season dip next year but all part of the learning curve.

Garbutt-- Touted as England potential when he signed from Leeds. Then some said he was worse than Bidwell, now it seems as though the consensus is Baines mark 2?

Browning -- Never seen him play but from reports it appears that he's the new Micah Richards and also is a centre back but keeps getting picked at right back.

Kenny-- Still a bit young and lightweight apparently though must be considered a top prospect and impressed in the youth world cup.

Do we think all of the above will make it and potentially yet realistically how good can they be?

Fantastic to have 4 players across the back all coming through.

There's pretty much no chance they'll all make it, just doesn't happen with youth that often.

I don't think Garbutt is anywhere near Baines potential wise.

Every now and then a club discovers a batch of players that are quality. Circa 97 Cadamarteri, Ball, Dunne, Jeffers, Hibbert and Osman. Cadamarteri failed cos he was exposed to young. Jeffers failed cos he went to a club with too much competition. Ball had a reasonable career which would have been better if we hadn't made him play on dodgy knees. Dunne has had decent career. Hibbert and Osman are stil here.

Hopefully all these players and maybe a couple of more attacking players can come thru and either save us or make us a fortune. My aforementioned 6 were covered by 20 months in age. The 4 mentioned in the original post are covered by 4 years.

@Brennan looks like browning and garbutt are on the cusp of the first team so at the very least would prove to be good cover players with time on their side.

It does seem to me that these 3 will get good playing time and next it looks like ledson and kenny to come through?

Please acknowledge Chris Long is brilliant. Seriously, every time I've watched him, which is about 3/4 times against good youth opposition, he's been unbelievable, boss shot on him, fast and skillful, and I think I remember him taking the corners and every corner being superb and right in the mix. Also, Connor Grant who played last pre-season and impressed, he looks good doesnt he, fit right in (More than Fellaini did) and played in the Martinez way.

But don't get me wrong, obviously 3/4 brilliant games at youth level doesn't mean he will make it, he just looked brilliant and above the other players in terms of quality

Our defence as a whole is ace, and the only thing that worries me, is when Bobby has to build his own defence, he was given an entire International back line.
