EVERTON have reportedly joined the chase for West Ham striker Dean Ashton.
The 24-year-old forward - who bagged a hat-trick in the Irons' 5-3 friendly win over Ipswich last night - has been linked with a move away from Upton Park all summer.
Manchester United, Spurs, Newcastle and Sunderland have all been credited with showing an interest in the England man.
Now David Moyes - who is hoping to raise £13million from the sale of Andy Johnson - is believed to be keen.
The Toffees boss sees Ashton as an ideal partner for Yakubu Aiyegbeni and is ready to splash out as much as £20million to land his man.
However, he will have a fight o his hands to prise the forward away from east London, after chief executive Scott Duxbury this week insisted the player is going nowhere.

I think the media is making up all kinds of crap just to compensate for the lack of transfer activity on Everton's side. :(

20 million? for ashton?

and we are struggling to go over 13 million for moutinho!

i can't see this rumour reaching a 100 pages!

Needs a full injury free season to impress me, I'm not sold though he has potential.

Hasnt he signed a new contract at West Ham though for a stupid 60odd grand a week?

I have never seen anything from Ashton that would make me think he is a "great" player. He's not bad, but not really that much better than Johnson, plus I don't seeing him fitting into our team very well.

Excellent player but no more than £10 million. I'd rather him than Bent.

Agreed. £10M is as far as I'd go for him as well.. but I can't see them letting him go for that amount, and I really think this is just paper fabrication. They know we need a striker if AJ leaves and so they conjure up this story.

I would happily see an Ashton/Johnson swap with maybe £4million cash adjustment.

To me Ashton is an old-fashioned centre forward in the Everton mould and would cause havoc alongside the Yak in a 4-4-2.

Ashton would be a good addition to the squad but i dont see it happening. It is one of a thousand rumours we read constantly. We need to see some concrete bids going in but still nothing, aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
