Deadwood

Getting rid of the deadwood does not bring in any money, and will not allow us to improve at all.

Its not football manager, and getting shut of Hibbo, Ossy and Gibson will not let us by a super -star.

Stones and Jags should be ok until the summer - I would like a solid keeper, then a Left Winger, then a LCB.

Alcarez: Cost nothing, been unfortunate with Injuries, but problem is he is always injured.t

Tbf on Alcaraz his last muscle injury was a year ago. He was recently out for a month with a dislocated shoulder but that was from Wilfred Bony crashing into him and landing awkwardly, likely to hurt anyone.

Given the youngsters coming through, and Barry also able to fill in as the left CB, wouldn't mind Alcaraz staying as a cheap 4th choice CB. It is a tough role to recruit for since if the first choice CBs stay fit there is little playing time to offer anyone.

I think Galloway was bought for the long term, Alcarez has been unfortunate in saying that. I would hardly call him a flop as I often see him labelled. Browning is knocking about somewhere too, it makes me wonder how good these young lads really are when they haven't really had a sniff of first team action as bad as we have been defensively.

Galloway is very good from what I've seen so far and as you say looks to be the long term replacement for Distin with my guess being that Barry was partly signed to provide cover as Galloway came up to speed. CB is a tough position to play for a lad at any time, let alone in a team leaking goals for fun, not surprised we haven't thrown in any of the youngsters as could be very damaging to them long term.

Browning looks up to playing physically but think he needs to develop the mental focus to play for 90mins, Stones is a rare breed being able to cope with it at his age.
RCB Stones, Alcaraz, Browning, Pennington
LCB Jags, Barry, Galloway

In an ideal world we'd get another CB in their peak years like Winston Reid but tbh we are far more desperate for a good quality winger or midfielder who can play on the wing.

I think Alcaraz's contract is up at the end of the season. It would be stupid to offer him an extension. Distin, McGeady, Kone, and Pienaar could be sacrificed too. I can't see that we'd let them all go at once, mind you.

Didn't Kone sign a 3? so it's as good as 18 months from here now in that case.
McGeady has only been here 12 months.
The real concerns are if Gibson is crocked forever, if Osman is hanging his boots up, and are we seeing a change of the guard if Hibbert calls it a day and ventures off to carp fishing mecca. Rumours abound Eto'o is wanted, there's loads on here demanding Howard is flogged to some MLS side, wholesale changes of even half this magnitude could see next season be as destabilised as this has been.

Would leave us with a very thin squad and we're already short of quality in some places.

For instance if Distin doesn't get a new deal, then I expect Alcaraz to and a quality centrebacks to come in as his replacement. Same with Osman and Pienaar.

It will a gradual phasing out of these players over the next 18 months because to make wholesale changes is never a good idea and we've not got the budget to cover it in one hit either.

True.

Despite what some people want, some of their 'favourites' are going to get offered extensions!
