Found this whilst doing my usual start of day internet trawl, pretty amazing stories here.

I've always wanted to climb a couple of mountains sometime in my life, far off fitness now but I suppose once I get a bit more time together I will spend some time in New Zealand learning the ropes.

There is a discussion about it all here which also has loads of pictures and videos of people just frozen there, quite confronting a few of them.

I've heard about this sort of stuff before. Antiques found on bodies on Everest...

Brave explorers but didn't live to tell the tale...

I was always aware that they left people behind when they couldn't continue, but it just didn't occur to me about the bodies and such. For some naive reason I just assumed they would of been covered or blown away, or to find a body you'd have to go into some small hidden cave way off the normal trails.

They found that British lass recently didn't they? She died up there leaving a couple of kids with no mum IIRC. Another bit of trivia, Brian Blessed is the oldest man to go up Everest without extra oxygen - but he has never made the summit in 2 or 3 attempts.

Mmm, Everest seems a walk in the park compared to some of the 'Eight-Thousanders', hence the death rate for Everest @5% is far lower than likes of the K2 @23% and Annapurna I @38%
