I thought I'd bring the topic of David Nugent into the open and see how our fans rate him.

Personally, I think there is something about Nugent that may just be a sleeping giant, and given the chance, he may just turn out to be a great player for us.

Let's put it to a vote. (y)

Nugent, while not a prolific forward, does know where the goal is and is maybe best remembered for his time at Preston, only about 24 years of age so plenty of life left in the dog yet, but would I want him at Goodison.

In a word, No.

Well, there's always that, and maybe I would favor a loan arrangement over a permanent signing, never been a fan really.

I'd need a lot of convincing...the simple fact is he's not managed to hold down a spot after he made the step up. Nothing against the lad and I guess if anyone were to get something out of him it'd be Moyes.

Loan, yes; permanent, no.

He would be quite effective, but only if we could play two upfront?

Then again we do have couple of young striker coming through, and they could come good for us before Saha & Yakubu retire?

DAVID NUGENT'S LOAN DEAL HITS SNAG - 2nd January 2010

OWEN Coyle's New Year wish is to keep David Nugent at Burnley for the rest of the season.

But the Turf Moor boss fears Portsmouth’s financial crisis might ruin his hopes of holding on to the former England striker, 24.

Nugent has impressed since joining the Clarets in September but the loan agreement runs out soon. Coyle struck a deal with his Premier League rivals to extend the loan or sign Nugent for about £1m.

But Pompey’s cash crisis could scupper the hopes of Coyle, whose side travel to League One MK Dons in today’s FA Cup third round.
Coyle said: “I know David wants to be here and I want him here. Hopefully, the extended loan can be concluded.”

I thought we should have bought him in the Portsmouth fire sale in the transfer window. We could have had him for decent wages and say 2-3M which even if he sucked he'd still be worth 2M to a Championship or Prem side.

He always looks good everytime I see him play, I think he gets unlucky at times too. The only player I see who hits the woodwork more often is VanPersie.

Plus bigger strikers don't really peak until their late 20s so his best years are probably ahead of him.

He'd also play his heart out if Moyes picks him up.

That's what I thought too. (y)
