2025/26 David Moyes

Not entirely understanding of our obsession with the Everton No.
9 role. Sure, we have had some extraordinarily great ones in the past but very few teams play that way nowadays preferring instead to have more fluid front lines. Even Haaland at City doesn't play the out and out target man albeit his skill set enables him to adopt whatever role he wants.

I just think we need to prise ourselves away from this idea that we need a 'target man' to aim for especially as the current ones we have are patently incapable of fulfilling the criteria required (Beto certainly can't and the jury is still out on Barry who probably needs more time and patience expending upon him).

Not sure where people expect us to be tbh. We made a mess of the window, and it left us without decent full backs or strikers and with no pace.

Add to that our best defender is out. Top half just was never going to happen, if you actually watch the other teams in the league.
I'm not in the Moyes out camp, I wasnt expecting europe etc, we all knew the window wasn't great, needed fullbacks , more pace etc. His subs , lack of subs etc are shocking , keeping Dewsbury Hall as a 10, playing hokey cokey with the strikers , not giving Alcaraz, Dibling , even Tim more minutes etc. Even the set pieces get worse by the week. He's too predictable and so are we.

If we’re being honest we only beat palace because they were breathing out their hoops due to Europe. A “normal” palace wouldn’t have lost.

We’ve been shocking for a while, and particularly after the wolves cup game.

He’s should try something completely different now, but his subs last night and his post match presser comments tells me he’s happy with what he’s seeing in the main, so it’s Beto for Barry and the insanity continues.

If he'd have focused on youth then around 13th and it would have been enjoyable to see players develop over this season - with senior players coming in next summer to take the team up to the european places.

With the signings he has made 8th and most of that is because...

1: He went for Palhinha, Soucek, McGinn & Tete.

After the above he didnt sign a DM or a RB

2: He signed KDH and Grealish + an injury prone Rohl.

3: He's not used Dibling, Anzou or Alcaraz correctly and is sapping the confidence of Beto & Barry.

So, for me he needs to have an incredible 2nd half of the season to get 8th or close to it.

I don’t get why you think the current squad should finish 8th? Forget about what we did/didnt do in the market. This squad/team is not the 8th best in the league.

Would agree tbh. I’d definitely try a proper midfield 3, and I’d probably make it Garner in the middle with Tim and Rohl either side.

That at least adds the physicality we lacked last night (felt we got bullied for an hour there) and at set pieces the height of Tarks, Keane, Jake, Tim, Rohl and Barry/Beto really should cause problems.

(I still don’t think there is a variation that gets us top ten btw)

Maybe depends on how we finish the season also feel may need another summer window. To make the squad more rounded, we do have see how develops players this season in dibbling ect
Yeah, there's still plenty of time to make something of this season.

More than anything, I'm not sure the owners will be impressed with how he's gone about integrating their new signings. Managing a high turnover of players seems to be pretty standard now.

we got lucky vs palace.
I'm not sure mentality puts 3mm on Beto's studs or volleys that chance in for Barry last night. When we play well and don't get our rewards we become very cagey. There's a stumbling block I agree but where what or how is to be decided.
I (and most others) would say that the introduction of Alcaraz made our luck against Palace. Yes, we do become cagey and it is costing us and for me, that is down to the manager not willing to change things up. We seem to have more talent available and are simply not using it. Before last night a draw would have appeared OK but Sunderland were not very good, even second half they just huffed and puffed. We could have won that with early and positive changes. He is frustrating.

we should have been 2 or 3 up and coasting, come out second half awake and been able to throw a few subs on to get some active game time under their belts. what needs changing is in the taking chances department. then he can chop and change and try all sorts of fancy stuff all he likes once games are settled. until then, anxious cautious football with so much riding on either staying in a match or white knuckle holding on to a slender lead.

You can't blame Moyes for Barry missing an absolute sitter when we were 1-0 up that any half-decent Sunday League player would have put away.
You can't blame Moyes for the fluky deflected equaliser.
You can't blame Moyes for the botched 2-on-1 situation at the end of the game.

Whatever tactics the Manager sets in place, once the players cross that white line and the whistle blows...

He needs to try Ndiaye up top with Alcaraz behind , Let Ndiaye use all his energy in the final third instead of tracking back. I knows he's been great on the right and scored goals, just worth ago to me. If we got chances I'd rather it fall to Ndiaye, Alcaraz, Grealish, Keane, even Pickford before Beto or Barry as it stands.
