2025/26 David Moyes

Yeah I think European qualification as an expectation is daft. For me my expectation is to move into the 8th-10th bracket, I think bottom half would be very disappointing but obviously the margins can be very fine so I’m not going to lose my head if we finish 11th by a couple of points or whatever.
Peoples expectations on a European spot are fueled by the fact that we wont get relegated so the only other thing to play for is Europe. There is zero chance of Europe happening at least for this season. You have Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Tottenham, Palace, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Brighton and Newcastle to beat to Europe and that is simply not happening without any firepower.

My expectation is a little lower 10-12 but anywhere around 8-10 being good for this year to push into Europe for the next. I think that's a reasonable timeline.

What I'd rather focus on here is what has happened with our summer recruitment.

How have we spent what we've spent on young players that Moyes won't trust instead of improving the starting 11 beyond KDH and a Grealish loan?

Was Moyes consulted and asked if he wanted the likes of Barry, Dibling and Aznou or if he'd have rather had signings that could go into the team from day one?

Having over 2/3rds of our transfer spend being determined to be unprepared to start league match surely can't have been the recruitment plan?

Is this Moyes rejecting players he didn't want? Is it just him refusing to trust the youth? Or did the recruitment team bring in players he can't use?

Not a good couple of games from Moyes but hardly the disaster of Lampard or dreariness of Dyche.

Although I sort of take his perspective on not rushing Aznou, Barry.

Tyler and Alcaraz have PL experience already - no need to be so shy.

I guess the squad is what it is - missing a reliable striker and a right back - we all knew it.

I think 12th would be hugely disappointing. To put it bluntly, paying grealish 200k a week to take you one place higher in the table is an unimaginably stupid thing to do, there is just no excuse for doing that type of thing and if that’s the clubs aim it just shows we’ve not learned anything.

The recruitment thing is hard to call at this point. There’s still time for Barry and dibling to become fixtures in the side this season so it’s impossible to say right now whether they were the right moves or not. Aznou it seems to me like he’s further away than they expected, I find it hard to believe that either Moyes or anyone else involved thought it was a good idea to spend that money on someone who they say is ‘a fair way off’ at this point.

Yeah. It's that sort of conservatism that hold us back.

It was founded by Moyes back in 2002 this conservatism.

We should 'just get safe and leave it at that'.

The feller has been an utter menace to this club's true traditions.
Is that what’s held us back?? Hmmm. Not so sure it is actually.

Our problems run deeper than Moyes, in fact we were our most stable under him the first time round.

Several managers have failed since Moyes and in fact it’s the stability Moyes has brought back which has allowed us to start looking forward again!

You don’t half talk some proper poo, what are these true traditions he has been a menace to?? Is it Moyes specifically or all of the managers that have failed before him??

Shocking if true.

We dont need Moyes to stabilise us anymore.

Take a good look around at the changes at this club off-field. Does a club laying down a cool £100M in a summer window and presenting this new image to the world really look like we require a manager to hunker down and get safe?

100M isn’t much nowadays. Haven’t you seen the way spending has gone?

Problems are pretty simple. We just do not have enough good players. We know the coaching will be professional at the moment so, as is usually the case, it is the deficiencies of the players to carry out the plan that is the real issue.
