2025/26 David Moyes

He brought a spoon to a knife fight. Unforgivable for me.

The simple fact is, he accumulated their worst points total in Premier League history.
Your posts are becoming increasingly embarrassing. He won their first European trophy for 40 years and all you can say is he got their worse points total in the Premier League. So what?! No wonder you're an apologist for Moyes with views like that. If we had our lowest points total in the premier league and didn't get relegated and won a European trophy I'd be doing some Jackie Chan style acrobatics down Goodison Road.

All I’m saying is I think he was using Europe as an excuse for their poor league form. Their league form was poor long before Europe was a major part of the equation.

He did well to win the cup, but it does not excuse just how bad they were in all domestic competitions. Ange was found out as a poor manager in the top flight after an initial fluky run and his performances at Forest simply underline this.

And their first trophy since their League cup win in 2008 and only their second in the Premier league era iirc.

How you weight each of those items will vary greatly between individuals.

It would have been a trade I'd have been happy about, clearly not the same for you and that is fine, it would be boring forum if everyone had the same opinion.

@Yid4life any input on the views of Spurs fans on the relative value of silverware vs league positions?

I get it you don't like him, that's fair enough. But you're not a poor manager if you win the Europa league. Venables, Hoddle, Mourinho, Pochettino, Conte - none of them could do it. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he's willing to strategically take chances to win things. In the modern day that takes courage. You can't judge him at Forest yet, he plays a completely different style of football to Nuno so its going to take awhile to change that. He may or may not be given that time, we'll have to wait and see.

There is such a thing as being lucky and in the right place at the right time. Roberto Di Matteo won the Champions League!

It’s a great achievement and made that season a big success. At the same time, Ange is not convincing at all as a top flight manager. I think Forest will further underline this. He basically got that job as he’s Greek (albeit of Australian nationality) and the owner is Greek.

I’m not convinced by Ange myself tbh.

But I’d really, really like a cup run, let alone a trophy itself!

I wasn’t really following Moyes’ Europa win with West Ham, any idea if he prioritizes the cup run vs the league by resting players in one rather than the other?

They didn’t really have the luxury of prioritizing Europe that season as the team was doing badly in the league. They ended up pretty comfortable though and then were able to fully focus on the semis and the final.
