2024/25 David Moyes

All managers inevitable have to build on someone elses foundations.

What if we went younger now, they got their players in, built their own foundation, and they absolutely flopped? Someone that has to come in on their foundations.

Look at Martinez - don't think he'd ever complain about the foundation Moyes left him.
Honestly mate I’m exhausted by all of these “what if?” conversations. The same questions exist for Moyes, too. I had hoped this deathly aversion to making an exciting appointment had died with the last regime, that’s all.

When we sacked Marco Silva in December 2019/we were in the relegation zone and Moyes was tipped to replace him. Chuckling at the response back then;

We've been so battered over the years, we're now a much more forgiving fanbase.
24 hours is a long time in football let alone 5 years, and a lot has happened to us and the world since 2019. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm tired of upheavel. I need some calm, healing waters and so do Everton.

That’s the point - based on his record it is by far the least likely outcome.
Why though mate? Because of his record with us between 11 and 22 years ago? Or because of his record with a completely different team recently? Or because of his abysmal record with a few clubs - one of them the best in the country at the time - in between?

Managers who don’t know the league have come in and done well with teams near the bottom. Experienced managers have flopped.

If he does an amazing job, great, but he’s not the only one capable of doing it.

I mean it's exhausting when you only want to see the negatives in this appointment I guess.
As opposed to steadfastly refusing to believe there could possibly BE any negatives, and believing that absolutely any other appointment would be virtually guaranteed to be an unmitigated failure? I’ve said repeatedly it’s not an entirely negative appointment, just very uninspired.

His record a West Ham is excellent. Best performing British manager during that period.

The thing is, he was desperate for this job and will give it everything. Who else is a viable candidate?

Sunderland were doomed. Owner had pulled the plug.
He was still poor .
I don’t thing that is arguable.
No manager is a copper bottomed guarantee against relegation, to be fair.
The next month will be interesting, whether there is enough bounce in our new manager to give us some breathing space, or whether one of the teams below us starts picking up points .
If you are not going to challenge for titles or CL places I suppose annual relegation battles add some interest .

The one thing I don't get about this appointment, if the stories about wanting Potter carried any substance, how do you go from him to Moyes? Everything about the 2 of them seems complete opposites, style of play, personality, so how do you go from one to the other, what type of continuity is there
