Wasn't he quoted saying the opposite a couple of weeks ago? The amount of bullshiet in the media is overwhelming.

David Moyes says Everton will not sell in order to buy in January

Everton manager David Moyes says he does not need to sell players in order to buy in the January transfer window. The Toffees are fourth in the Premier League table, but currently without striker Kevin Mirallas and defender Tony Hibbert through injury.

"We wouldn't be letting anyone go, but we would like to add to it if we can," said Moyes.
"But we can only do that if the players were available and it was the right deal for us."

Everton have traditionally sold players in order to buy and there is speculation Moyes could offload defender John Heitinga to fund a bid for Paris Saint Germain striker Kevin Gameiro, Toulouse youngster Wissam Ben Yedder and bring back Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott on loan.

Meanwhile, Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, 24, is reportedly a target for Chelsea.
"I'd like to (strengthen), but we know I've got a very small amount I could do anything with," added Moyes.
"We will probably look and see if there is anything out there but I don't think the situation with Mirallas and Hibbo would change that."

Shouldn't need to sell to buy this time, simply because we sold more than we bought last time..
Therefore its still sell to buy.. there is just a bit of a gap between the selling and the buying.

We'll all know the truth in 6-7 weeks anyway.

Unless he is buying now in the hope of Champions League knowing if we don't make it he will sell Fellaini in the summer to cover it?

This is where the truth lies, I believe.... and if we do make CL the revenues would help cover the purchases that would be needed to play EPL and CL in the same season

Surely we still have some of the Rodwell cash left?
He was only a cock hair away from signing Odjidja-Ofoe but didn't, so I guess he will go back for him, Lescott loan and a striker loan too. That would do me I reckon. Vossen and Gameiro good choices for striker

I thought he was looking for an indication that we we're ambitious? Not letting players go doesn't really count.

That's what i hope(the first part, not selling Fellaini). Would be great to make an awesome buy on the premise if they make champions league they get the extra revenue needed to cover the buy.

I have absolutely no plans to sell my house this January .... unless someone comes in and offers me twice what it is worth.

I think if we do get some sort of European football plus the new tv revenue we won't need to sell Fellaini.
I wouldn't want Heitinga to go but to push for Champions League I would agree that getting another striker in would help our cause, but in the summer we will have to find a way of getting another goalkeeper and a CB. But I don't think the latter is that important.
It would be great if we could get someone to partner Gibson in CM, whether Odjidja-Ofoe will cut it I don't know, but Moyes seemed keen on getting him in January.
