Must be worth over £30m in total now
Been thinking about this a lot lately. Yes, above is true, but ONLY if you sell. Which, at the moment, we don't appear to be looking to do.
So my question is, at what point do you have to consider selling players in order to finance the next Moyes diamond find? You heard Tim's comments, about players getting on in age, them wanting to win something, Moyes making a gentlemen's agreement w/ top players (something like..."give us a chance to win something for a few years lads"??), etc.
Obviously this could be smoke in mirror talk by T-Cahill to begin with. But seriously, at 28-30 should we look to cash on someone?
Sorry, but the more I hear about Pienaar stalling on contract talks, others willing to pay 12-13 mil, reading his interviews where he talks about wanting to enjoy new experiences, try new things, see new places....sorry but if he doesn't know a hundred percent Everton is the club who made him & it's where he should be? Then sell him. There, I said it.
Arteta is invaluable. Cahill has earned the right to retire an Evertonian. He's an example to all young footballers of how to approach & play the game. He can stay as long as he wishes to. Key here-as long as he wishes. I imagine he has zero desire to leave. But, if he'd like to try his luck (I only say this b/c of his comments, which led me to believe he may entertain the thought) then he also has earned the right to go as well. But, I think that's probably a non-issue. Moving on.
So here goes, may get hammered for it, but I don't care.
SELL. NOW.
1. Pienaar-see above; and, Bily will come good. FACT. Zog if bought will do well. Even Landon could be bought for significantly less than 12-13 mil (if rumors of 12-13mil are accurate, of course). And sorry, but as great as Pienaar is, I don't believe he's leaps & bounds ahead of LD. They bring different qualities. But given some rest & a full year at Everton, he wouldn't disappoint.
2. Saha-Yak's younger (& better if in shape imo), Vic continues to impress me (& is only 22!), Beckford's coming, Baxter soon enough. Vaughan has always impressed, if only he could stay healthy. Let's face it Saha has moved about enough he'd probably be fine w/ it. He just signed new contract, so should bring good value. But if you don't sell now, the value will drop HARD & QUICKLY. And his new contract will eventually become a liability as he ages.
3/4. Distin AND Yobo-replace w/ Senderos on a free. Bring Coleman along, allowing Nev to rotate back to CB at times. Heit & Jags regular starters. No Europe means less games. Just got significantly younger, marginal difference in quality imo. And made money.
5/6. At MINIMUM one younger player not named Rodwell, whoever Moyes rates least. Vaughan, Gosling, whoever. His call.
Sorry, I'm all about keeping the players together. Honest. But it's all in the name of progress. And, w/ this money, Moyes would absolutely find a couple pieces to ensure Champions League becomes reality.
The window is now.
