David Moyes and the current climate in the transfer market

I think you may be right about Ferguson at least. Wenger has confidence in his players, and so far it's paying off.

I think regardless of wether all players come back to full fitness and we have a healthy squad come january, moyes must look to bring in an out and out winger with pace, its really the one type of player we are missing when everyone is fit, the kind of player who will hug the sideline at home against the lesser lights in the league and stretch them or away from home against the sronger teams, when we play a bit more counter attack

A true winger would be nice. Does Everton need a winger or another creative CM? Can Moyes afford the winger he'd like to have?

To get back to Tez' original thought - if Everton are mid-table in January and Europe isn't looking as good as it once was and the side hasn't turned it around, does Everton possibly sell instead of buy?

Sorry for going off original point, but in answer to the above, think a real winger is more important than another creative midfielder as its the one option we dont have when everyone is fit, if moyes had, say, £10 million(i can hear some of yis laughing) id put every penny into finding one, we were rumoured to be interested in that other russian, bystrov, think he ended up being sold for about that amount

All largely speculation, but nonetheless an interesting thread - it just shows how the same situation can be viewed & interpreted in quite different ways, depending upon your own perspective.

The climate in the January transfer window may be totally different, it'll be an interesting one.
Few managers like to buy players during the winter window since from the off with prices for players increasing due to how negative the effect of losing the player is to the selling team at that time of the season.
It remains to be seen whether City will again effect the prices of players further still if they continue buying but again I think the same applies to Everton if we're in dire straights come that time.
Though it wouldn't be ideal, we don't have the luxary of a squad big enough to cope without additions when we could do with them, like Man Utd.
So no, in that scenario we wouldn't look to sell rather than buy because situations would dictate otherwise.

Your opening gambit was absolutely spot on, Tez (y)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: when we have a fully fit squad we will be a match for anyone. In many ways this season mirrors the season when the shirt first appeared, when the team Howard Kendal assembled struggled in the league yet won the FA cup and then went on to win the the Cup-Winners Cup and took the old 1st Division title for two of the next three seasons.

I know it's a lot harder act to follow these days but the thought of a midfield of Pienaar, Ateta, Bilyadetinov and A.N Other is mouthwatering and I will be amazed if next season (injuries notwithstanding) we don't finish in the top 6 with our eyes shut and the top 4 with them open (y)

Good post mate and welcome.

Possibly a loan with a view to buy in Jan of Arteta or Fernades propornitons, wont be Banega though hes been a star performer for Valencia this season.

Not a lot needs to be added to the squad persuming all stay - hopefully we can concentrate all cash on the one or two places in midfeild.
