Are we actually potentially killing ourselves in future deals, whilst having to narrow down the market just to save ourselves a couple of pound now! kenrwright is obviously a tough man when it comes to making and saving a penny through transfers which is always a good thing until you find clubs just wont deal with us anymore, i mean thats now anderlecht and utd in past few weeks!

I'm presuming that it went something like this ;

1. Anderlecht wanted to sell him to us for £3mill
2. We refused and Olympiacos " bought him " for £1.5 mill
3. We loan Henen from Olympiacos paying a loan fee of £1.5 mill
5. As part of the deal we have the obligation ( not option ) to buy him for a further fee of £500,000 at the end of the loan.

In conclusion we would get the player for £1mill less , Olympiacos make £500k for nowt and Anderlecht lose £1mill on their valuation.

Sharp practice if the above scenario is correct but not unlawful

Nothing in the regulations prevents it. Ergo it is not illegal.

Nor is it contrary to FFP.

If this were a large fee 30 million say and pushed us over the limits if included. Might raise concern.

Since this is an U21 player less of an issue.

Its a none issue. Its dog eat dog.

Newcastle. Gosling.

Spurs. Pienaar.

You either eat the dog. Or you get eaten.

We've hardly stolen him for nothing. We didn't agree with their valuation. That is all.

We owe United no favours whatsoever after they got Rooney for an absolute song. I am sure they thought they could do the same with Barkley when it suits so **** 'em. About time we started behaving like Everton FC instead of some 2nd rate plucky nobodies.
Regarding Anderlecht I am sure we tried for Lukaku pre Chelsea move and they were difficult then too.
We will do what is right for Everton. As mentioned it's dog eat dog football.

Fully agree.

We are mighty, hear us roar.

We aren't (and shouldn't be) a club that others regard as being substandard or anything like a pushover.

We're Everton. There is no further explanation needed.

Well said Lord Vader.

We are still one of the biggest clubs in the country, no matter what Sky/Daily Mail etc think, but everyone thinks we should roll over like an obedient dog when one of the media darlings want to have us off. Seems like we have grown a set recently, hope it lasts.

Apparently the way the Lukaku deal is structured led to Anderlecht getting £1.5m less than they thought they were entitled to, hence them demanding the shortfall.

Olympiakos have just made a few quid for [Poor language removed] all and we've saved £1m.

Happy days all around

If Anderlecht are sour with any club it should be the Greeks and not Everton as it looks as if Olympiacos facilitated the deal which may cost Anderlecht a lot of money.
I think Anderlecht may have tried to screw a lot of money out of a rich premiership club ie Everton (if only they knew). It would aooear they were prepared to sell for a lot less to other buyers or maybe sell with fewer add-ons.

The point for me is that Henen must be highly rated for Everton to go through such a long protracted difficult transfer saga to get their man.

WARP FACTOR REP!

Hate him.

Not even his fault.

Hate him.
I think I hate him too but I'm sort of relieved we finally got him since if he went somewhere else you know he'd end up a 1 in 2 striker for the rest of his career. Not that he'll do anything of note with us mind.

We get to assess him for a whole year. Maybe even put him in the first team at some point with little financial risk.

But if he turns out to be ace, we'll probably end up paying double the original £3 million asking price for him
If he turns out to be ace double £3 million is still robbery for a centre forward who can slot.

Can just see it now. We're 3-2 up in the Europa League Final against the RS, the hat-trick hero, Kone goes off on a stretcher clutching his knee a minute into added time, Eto'o and Lukaku are both unavailable so we bring on Henen, who makes his debut. We see off the RS and celebrate bringing the EL back to Goodison.
Meanwhile in Belgium, Anderlecht are still seething about the Henen deal and lodge a formal complaint with UEFA over our dealings with them. UEFA then rule that Henen remained an Anderlecht player and hence was illegible to play, removing the trophy and awarding it to the RS, who finished 9th after a disappointing season, allowing them to qualify for the CL whilst we are banned from European competitions for 2 years.
Complete fantasy this.

Kone would never score a hat trick.
