Context is important. You don't have to look back far in the thread to see what I mean. I just find it a bit sad that people go onto threads to say that they don't like the topic. If someone doesn't like something then fine but why not just find a thread that does appeal.
I was joking...

Documentary tonight on a rock channel from his early life in music to his fantastic band who were put on the dole when he anounced he was packing in Ziggy stardust concert - unknown to them he cleared of with broken promises out of work!
A bit harsh from him to do that sort of thing!
The tour killed him finacially and the persona he created was also killing him.
The band and everybody else involved used and abused this tour for their own pleasures, they reckon at the end he made a personal loss. He also went with the ride and abused everything, but I reckon at the end enough was enough not just the money side but the hole Ziggy thing....he had to make the clean break

Still left them on the dole sacked the good drummer before that too, his solo career imo was hit and miss the band and he were great especially the lead guitarist !

ronson was superb and I always wonder why he never took him with him, but think he needed that clean break from it all.
I never liked the lets dance/China girl stuff, thought he sold himself out to the corporate music machine, think he has even said something on them lines in the past.
I think your comment about his solo career is in some ways one of the reasons why he was such an iconic musical figure. He changed his musical styles so much he created so much debate and differing opinions, but ultimitly he hit a massive cross section of people's tastes....but I think even the most avid Bowie fan will have a era/album that didn't hit the mark for them.
My favourite song will always be Five Years, simply as it was the song that captured me
After that there is a host of them which span across most of his career, except the Lets Dance era
I think he was always prepared to shock people and didn't really care for what people thought if him, I think the Low album was the prime example of th

In othe documentary the then living former band members accepted what a fantastic talent he was, but their rolll, as a long established tight backing band he made them a big promise he reneged on by saying one day he would support them to be one day rich!
They had everyday comforts, but no long financial sustainability Bowoie promised them the first time they heard the break up was Bowles announcement on stage they never seen it coming the manager after he had cleared off, stated Bowie made the promises not him leaving them on the dole great artist but pretty ruthless, and disloyal imo!

Ruthless business music

Three new tracks have appeared on Youtube yesterday and today, commemorating what would have been his 70th birthday.

No Plan, When I met You and Killing a Little Time.

Currently watching Bowie on BBC...easily the greatest solo artist in my lifetime. Got the Ziggy album for my 10th birthday in 1973 and have been very fortunate to have seen him live a couple of times.
