....guilty on one count of indecent assault, interesting what sentence that will provoke. Good that justice is catching up, it can't be just a thing of days gone past so hopefully sends out the right message to present day perpetrators.
 
Indecent assault is misleading as it could mean a lot of things. Something minor like a slap on the arse (which indecent assault can classify) should never in a million years be brought to court, convicted and then paraded around in the press. Unless its a child of course.

Its all getting a bit ridic now. If they are going to convict someone of indecent assault then they should release exact details of the alleged 'crime'.

Absolute rubbish.

This is part of a much needed change in society. It has been male-centric since time began.

It is not acceptable to slap a girl's arse. What part of that don't you agree with? It's an offence and should be treated as such.

No its not. Where did I say it was?

It also shouldn't make the [Poor language removed] courts. What a waste of time and money. If reported to the police (if the girl felt that strongly about it) then warnings should be given out. Not custodial jail sentences decided by a judge. Christ.

I've been in gay clubs and had my arse slapped, the thought of that person going to court for it is absolutely laughable. Its a minor nuisance. Not nessessarily acceptable and if its really OTT then of course report it but jesus, the police and the courts have got worse things to be worrying about.

You said it was 'something minor' and it shouldn't go anywhere near the courts. I disagree. It's about creating a culture where that sort of thing is totally 100% unacceptable. It's an offence and should go on someone's record. As that's a serious thing it would probably be right to look at it in court.
 
Maximum sentence for this level of crime is 26 weeks. Could be community service.

So thats how "serious" it was. And it was 20 years ago.

Then you'd have half the people who go to nightclubs with a criminal record and all of the processing that goes with that. Don't be ridiculous.

Rubbish. You think that most of the men in a nightclub grope women without their consent? Jesus, if that's correct, you need to go to a better standard of establishment.

Damn it Nik, I'm jealous now. I've been in gay clubs and never had my arse slapped or even gently pinched.

It happens. Its not right, Id just grant the right for the girl to kick the guy in the balls with no repercussions. Court appearances for such minor bullshit 'offences' will be a complete drain on resources.
 
It should be noted that he was found not guilty of the other charge, plus the other 12 charges they brought to court on his first trial.

This has cost him his reputation and his home.

Disproportionate or perfectly fair? That's down to individual opnion.

Personally, I find it all a bit tawdry, taking some of these supposed 'incidents' out of the context of the era they happened in, is dangerous.
