Love Chapelle.
Watched this last night and thought it was boss, not his best set but still better than most of the stuff that's about.
If people were offended, that's fine. Be offended, let them be offended, but also realise that other people see the nuance in stuff like this and realise the humour in it.
Sad to see a publication like Vice, who see's itself as "cutting edge" completely miss the point and pretty much assassinate his character, all in the name of social justice.
I can see why people would be offended, but your offence should end there. Realise his stuff isn't for you and move on with your life.
Remember when Vice used to pride itself on pissing people off?
Comedy, like any form of entertainment changes, evolves, goes full circle, the likes of Manning was very good at what he done at the time, forget the content for a moment, more the delivery and timing, but it became stale, out of date, like certain TV shows, slapstick, one liner stand up comics are no longer vogue, and like any form of entertainment some people will not like a particular genre, same as films, music, books, as you say Davidson,Brown etc will always have venues, fans and an outlet for their type of comedy, its just not as mainstream now because tastes changeThe reason their comedy legacy died is because it was bigoted and cruel and, to be honest, not particularly great - it's very dated even ignoring the racism. However, Davidson still tours and still has places he can perform and people who like him can see him.
People can still say pretty much whatever they want, audiences don't have to like it and people don't have to put it on. The liberal left are not killing comedy, they are not forcing people to stop performing, they are not stopping voices being heard.
This is my biggest problem with the media in general. Dave was simply making a statement that was very personal to him (defending the likes of Kevin Hart and Sarah Silverman), and instead of taking context into account, they are trying to push their agenda. In fact, he was literally mocking them for that agenda.Love Chapelle.

"Nelson Mandela, what a c***. Terry Waite, f***ng b***ard. I dunno, you lend some people a fiver, you never see them again."

What on Earth is going on with Dave Chappelle?
I’m not outraged, or shocked, or triggered. I’m boredwww.independent.co.uk
I watched it this afternoon and thought the same. Was ok but not side splittingly humorous. Not read the article, but the little snippet of text in that link is pretty much how I felt about this special... didn't laugh out loud once, couple of smiles here and there but overall pretty boring stuff and pretty average by his high standards (although his last special wasn't that great either tbh)
99% of stand up comedians aren't great tbh, either that or I don't really like stand up.
I often wonder how they show enthusiasm when they're touring basically repeating themselves night after night after night. Be a tough gig trying to keep it upWell yeah, that;s why the ones who are good can command high ticket prices and get on telly.
