I totally disagree with that. It's the total opposite imo.

Barry reads the game & anticipates danger better than any other midfield player we've got.

Gibson has a greater range of passing & gets into more advanced positions, so provides more from an attacking perspective

You're probably right, but I always think of Barry as an all-round midfielder which he isn't so much these days, and Gibson has the player who nips in a makes lots of vital interceptions to break up play of opposition. I also base my view that Barry's always managed to chip in with a few goals a season, meaning he must be a threat in and around the box. At the end of the day they are different players and will add different qualities to the squad when they're fit and able to play.

One thing i love about gibbo which i think we lack at the minute is his urgency, he passes the ball around at pace and he rarely passes backwards

A bit left field this but could Gibson be our "no 10"? The attributes are certainly there, decent passer, likes to get forward, has a decent shot on him when he is allowed forward and so on. Also not being in the nitty griity of a midfield battle may ease up on his injury issues.
I think I would prefer to see him there instead of Barkley. Personally see Barkley as more of a Lampard and moving him a bit deeper would allow him have those marauding run from deep with Gibson moving the ball around at pace in the final third. Granted he ain't no bergkamp but he might just be an option to look at assuming all the transfer money has been spent on new toilets or cctv.

Not for me. He hasn't got the pace for it.

Do you really need pace though for that position? Rooney is no speed merchant, bergkamp never was, Sheringham, Beardsley, Ozil, none of these have/had pace. Then there is the bell end Gerrard when he used to play there, again not really blessed with pace.

He isn't as good as any of those players either! You're talking about some of the most gifted players of their generations there.
