United fan here. I reckon he found his level to be honest. he was bang average for us(no offence intended as i hope you guys acc get top 4) however he couldnt keep up with play. he was shoot crazy and never convinced the fans. evident when he created a twitter a nd delited after a few hours cause of abuse.

its weird tho, on this forum people seem to think ehs better than cleverly and carrick. when imo hes nowere near.

With a better club and better supporters now mate.
Everton improve players not let em rot.
Am sure we could do the same with Cleverley n the other one but it would obv. take longer cos they're not as good as Gibbo.

He was bog standard at United; but he was young and played 60 games over six years at the club, and never had a consistent run in the first team.

What's happened at Everton is that he's been given the responsibility and trust in the midfield, and he's shone. His range of passing is phenomenal, dictates the tempo perfectly... It's astonishing how good he is because, like you, I didn't rate him at United at all.

But honestly, he's far better than any ball playing midfielder you have currently. I think his positional sense and all round energy is superior to Carrick, and he's just better than Cleverley in every single way imaginable (I think it's only Man Utd fans who can see what that guy actually offers on the pitch; he comes across as a more advanced version of Rodwell to us).

Your loss is our gain really. You may not rate him but we're not mugs at Everton - we know a footballer when we see one. Given he's 25, still approaching his peak and playing as well as he is currently, we've got the bargain of the century from you.

If we're honest, he's nowhere in Carricks league is he. Carrick is a top midfielder and has don't take my word for it. Look at the England managers and Sir Alex who all really like him.

Gibson is much better than Cleverly though.

True, but he always has that element of "luxury player" about him, and goes missing too often for my liking. Needs an industrious player around him to pick up the slack and allow him to drop into space to get his range of passing going.

Gibson has the passing range and the industry, making him the more useful overall player IMO.

I wouldn't swap him for any central midfielder you've currently got, mate.
I love Gibbo as much as anyone but even I was thinking we were overrating him a bit saying he'd improve United on current form. This statement puts it into perspective though; I'd say it's about right.

Everton improve players not let em rot.

think United never really believed in him,was it 60 games in how many seasons ?.think it would be fair to say Evertonians were sceptical on his arrival, but with a run of games and the support from the terraces,it probably gave him a bit of self belief.he also has a manager who actually wanted him which would probably help his state of mind also.

feck sake even phil neville is 10 times better than cleverly its no wonder united let a 8 point lead slip last season with him in midfield as for Carrick Fellaini made bits of him in the first game of the season you are welcome to them

Might have a point about him finding his level though. The pressure of playing for a side challenging for every competition they're in might've been a bit much for him at a young age, and he's now benefitting from playing in a side with tempered expectations?

All of that has been proven wrong at Everton though, The guy is full of confidence, spraying passes, controlling the game and incidentally he seems to make us ALOT tighter at the back. He wasnt even fully fit and still got MOTM with ease on Sunday.

Half an hour into his debut at Villa and I could tell we had signed an excellent player

Before that though I wasn't sold on him

I think Gibson would help United currently. I also don't think he's good enough for one of the richest 3 or 4 clubs in the world. And we're much better off for it.

Carrick and Cleverly...if you put them together, you'd have one heck of a player. Each has fatal flaws and frankly just aren't good enough to be difference makers at the European level. Carrick is a great passer but not assertive and a bit of a lightweight in the midfield. Cleverly seems to be a bit of the opposite in the little I've seen him play.

Pretty sure Gibson and Neville controlled the midfield against United on the first game of the season. You've let a good player go for buttons, unlucky.
