Dan Gosling

We've dodged a bullet. He must have been out of the game for a good 18 months now. The wages that we've saved probably more than covered his transfer fee. Even when/if he comes back, I really can't see him getting a game in his preferred central midfield role.

My understanding of the situation was that we offered him a verbal contract. He wanted to play central midfield, but was told that he was way down the pecking order. So he sat on the contract offer until he was able to engineer a free transfer away from the club and pick up a hefty signing on fee somewhere else. I don't think we've done too much wrong, other than not ensuring that one of our assets was tied down to a contract. It seems like it was Gosling and his agent who acted dishonourably.
