Things are kicking off within the Clarion cycling club - a motion has been passed to remove the word socialism from the body's constitution.

I'm a member of my local Clarion - joined without knowing anything about its history, don't care about politics in this context, but the decision seems very wrong to me. There are many cycling clubs, but only one with this history.

The sport has changed a lot though, hasn't it? It no longer seems to be the working-class sport of Coppi and Hinault's days and is now more aptly defined by the hugely expensive and image-driven Rapha brigade.

Clarion is all shapes and sizes - the motto is Fellowship is life and that is what it's all about, cycling and friendship. Some clubs are dedicated bimblers - 20 miles to the cake shop and back on a Sunday, some are very racing focussed, most are a mix. Everyone respects the heritage and history of the club but I've never met someone who is there for the politics first, cycling second (IRL - facebook appears to be full of these low-mileage specimens).

So it's an unnecessary row all in all - so much positive experiences with the Clarion, or epic feats of cycling from members, yet the thing that makes the national press is this auld socialist bollox.

The Maratona have done a photoshoot to show off their kit. Dang I miss those mountains (it's the Passo Falzarego if you're wondering - also has some stunning via Ferrata along some WW1 battlefields in the mountain)

Team GB Olympic squad announced today as well

Team GB Announce Cycling Team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has today named the riders who will compete in the cycling events at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Pidcock confirmed for the MTB is a big deal as there were questions as to whether UK would get a place - he has a great shot at a medal. Head to head with van der Poel will be highlight of the games for me. Evie Richards is also a serious contender in the women's although she excels more at the short track.

Ineos' strategy gone out the window on day 1. Porte lost two and a half minutes. TGH several minutes. The only other notable casualty among those who might reasonably be a contender was Miguel Angel Lopez who also lost nearly 2 minutes.
