Cycling thread

Finally picked up a bike (used CAAD10 and I'm happy with it so far, but don't ask how much I shelled out for it) and still learning the basics. Although my goal is still to complete a triathlon, I've been watching and reading up and learning about the cycling stuff (not sure if more than healthy or just normal levels of too much diving in) and now pondering whether some sort of bike race/event is in my future. Having completed 2 marathons I know the endurance aspect is in my blood, but those were only 3 hours and I still can't imagine sitting on the saddle for north of 3 hours...

Anyway, I wanted to ask what bike would you want to ride if you could build any bike, or what bike is just out of reach but you'd enjoy riding it if dreaming of "super bikes" is too impractical.

Good you got sorted out with the bike. Stock still desperate here - looking for a new XC mountain bike but was told not to expect the one I want till 2021.

I ride a few different types of bike but it's only really mountain bikes that stiffen the sinews for me in terms of the machine - think because it's what I did when I was younger and couldn't afford anything decent, so would dream about owning something good. Saw one of these in the Alps last year and it looked the absolute Dog's full monty in the flesh - pivot firebird 29er. Around 6K and would be a ridiculous luxury for where I live in the UK - you need to be riding steep, technical trails on the reg to justify something like this.

My fav riding is cyclocross but the bikes don't quite elicit the same passion - see them more as tools. Was going to buy one of these as my main race bike (with a more modest groupset - this one has etap) before the season got cancelled, and channel some of the MvdP magic. Aesthetics on this frame not for everyone.

Some granite hard racing on display this week from Evie Richards - British rider who has been U23 cyclocross world champ twice, her first elite women's MTB race at the world up in Czech rep this week. She's leading the short course race - 20 min eyeballs out effort, then crashes hard on the penultimate lap. Race over as far as the podium goes because you can't come back from that in such a short format and the commentators say as much.
No, her race is not over - insta-remounts CX style (on the bad side) and storms back to the front and throws down a vicious sprint to beat the legend Pauline Ferrant-Prevot, who was raging over some perceived injustice on the racing line.

(she goes down around 27 mins)

She goes again in the longer Olympic format tomorrow.

CaaD 10 is a fine bike. Ivan Basso used one for most of his final season. Probably the best aluminium frame still on the market.

Giro yesterday not much of a spectacle. Mostly along a modern road complete with bridges and tunnels. Last few km, Nibs started the action and I think a team-mate took it.
They finish atop Mt Etna today after a hilly stage. Maybe the climbers will attack each other, but it's early days.

Thomas was true to form and crashed in the neutral zone. He seems to be fine and just with a bit of road rash, but given Etna was on the menu in 2017 when he crashed out, he'll be keen to get out of this one unscathed I suspect.

Thomas off the back of the bunch with 30km to go. What next for Ineos?.
