Zwift have apparently taken over the running of zwift power - third party website (one of just two with access to the zwift api apparently) where all the real results went up.
See how it goes but could potentially be bad. The casuls want to race at their fantasy power of 5 wkg, and the racers want to do things legit. But what is the difference between the 15 quid monthly subscription paid by the two groups? Nothing at all...

Important to remember it is just a game. Most of those getting their noses bent out of shape seem to be C and D cats with people racing in the wrong category.

Problem is when their game adversely effects my game, which it does. If it was just a question of getting beaten by sandbaggers or virtual power merchants then no one would care all that much. Plus everyone should support the idea of beginners getting into racing without owning a boss turbo or a power meter.

It's when they change the dynamic of the race that it becomes a different story, e.g. pushing the lead gp in a crit at out of cat power so people don't know what the 'real' lead gp actually is, sprint finish is ten blokes but five of them are getting DQed on zpower so who are you sprinting against exactly?, or the absolute worst where you manage a breakaway in a longer race (super hard to do with the zwift draft) and some fat bloke spinning a toy turbo at 5.5 wkg brings your competitors back on.

It's not a massive issue for me as I race B (although the crit sprints are defo aggravating) and most of the shithousery seems to take place in C like you point out, but zwiftpower plays a huge role in making racing enjoyable. Placing it in the hands of zwift, who have different incentives across teh entire userbase, doesn't sound like a positive step. But we'll see.

It's almost as if zwift is a computer game rather than an accurate method of ranking athletic performance... pays your money, takes your choice.

It is what it is unfortunately. I do the Kiss at Base group rides pretty regularly, and while they're generally okay and keep to a general zone2 level, they have to be run on very flat courses or the group just blows up on any kind of bump, which isn't great, but Zwift attracts a lot of people, and some of them are twonks. Such is life *shrug*

What choice? There isn't one. All racing has been cancelled for the past 4 months in the UK, all disciplines, and most of it is off for the year. Zwift is literally the only game in town.

The NW cross league has gamely refused to cancel and will try to put races on this winter (most other leagues have outright called things off), altho how you handle a socially distanced mass start race I have no idea.

My mate is everesting on zwift today - 8 and 1/3 times up the Alpe. Just jumped on to keep him company on his 7th ascent and we did it in approx 58 mins - I would not have fancied even one more go at it. Bloke is granite strong (v good tester IRL), but sounded like he was starting to really hurt.

Rules for v-everesting allow you to get off the bike on the descent which is a small mercy. So you can point it down the Alpe and get off, walk around for a few minutes, eat something etc before it's back on the pain trail.

Must say I don't fancy spending that long on the bike, especially indoors.

Yeah it must have been brutal - harder than outside I reckon, despite the breaks on the descents. He did it 9h 45 at 255 W np - superb time esp as he's not a skinny climber.

There's also a rule of vEveresting that the turbo has to be at 100% trainer difficulty, so you feel the steepness of the pitches, a lot of gear changing. Altho some folk prefer that - I run 25% usually which flattens the feeling of gradient and gives a more constant cadence.

Something like that is way beyond me but it's good to set a challenge that is massive in your own terms. Haven't really ridden anything expansive this year that I can recall.

Sounds like trouble at mill at Garmin. Ransomeware attack put their entire Garmin connect network on its arse.

Yep, looks like it could be a few days.

Ah well, will have to deal without my strava being updated. Annoying as I went for a PB on a hill near me today and think I may have done it, haha.

I'm fully, fully into it now, like.

Go out at least 5 times a week as an average. It's improved my general fitness and running no end.

I alternate between hilly and flat routes - the beauty of West Yorkshire.

I'd say my average speed overall will be about the 27kph mark (taking into account hillier routes and flatter ones). Top avg speed is one I did on Tuesday - 29.2km in just over 59 mins. Unfortunately just missing that 30kph avg but it's my target for next time I'm on that route (one I have to do in an evening now the roads are busy in the day again).

Still need to get a 100km one in but ideally want a nice day and a group to do it with. Me and my mates are into it but it's finding the time (obviously that wasn't an issue in lockdown) that we can all do it together. Don't fancy a 100km + on my own - top I've done so far solo is 70km. Most of my longer ones have always been in a group of two or three, just helps with the motivation too.

If there's one thing I'm thankful for in lockdown though it's this. Down to about 12 stone 2/3 now (77.5kg I believe). Ran 6.3km in 27 mins yesterday so my fitness is right up there where I wanted it to be again.

Haha - I wondered why my ride hadn't uploaded earlier.

Anyway ... while I'm nowhere near as fast as some of the speed stars on here, i response to the mammoth rides above I did a solo 14 hour 200 miler on 20 June. I was tempted to try 250 on Saturday but the wind has put me off and I suspect that's the art chance to do with a decent amount of light this year.

Fair play!

I definitely do like a nice long ride but i'm not into anything that long just yet, haha.

I try not to go hell for leather. I use cycling for my endurance and then some nice bursts of intensity - it's just nice to push myself when I do go on those flatter routes as I know I have it in me, but I generally just compete with myself and my mates, not any of the strava pros!

June/July in general have been so iffy with the weather. Given I am still new to it and the roads are getting busier etc, the wind is the big thing for me. Can handle a bit of rain but when it's rough wind I've not bothered.
