18 months handed down to Charlie Alliston today for wanton and furious driving - the cyclist riding a brakeless fixed mentioned up thread.

Sad story all round - there is little precedent for the case, and difficulties with the Victorian law it was brought under make it hard to compare to things like death by careless driving.

Do they carry out 18 months prison penalties in the UK?

@Bruce Wayne Talk to me. Recommend me a road bike, I'm about to start doing the 20 mile round trip to work each day by bike so I need to look for a road bike rather than my mountain bike. It needs to take considerable strain as I'm a fatty.

We can talk about the doping once I've fully integrated into the sport.

You probably want a tourer as they're a bit more robust and you can easily fit mudguards, pannier racks and so on. Decent overview of some options for you here - http://road.cc/content/buyers-guide/205991-10-best-touring-bikes-—-your-options-taking-beyond

How do you mean mate? It's a custodial sentence, he's going to prison, but will be released early if he behaves himself. I think it's something like 50% of the sentence for a first offence of this nature in the UK.
Had the judge been lenient she might have given him a suspended sentence, you don't go to prison but you're on probation for the duration of the sentence - any law-breaking and you will.

Was just out of interest. In Belgium prison sentences under 3 years don't get executed. It's more pro forma, and it only becomes a problem when you reoffend.
