Did anybody realise that Van Wilder was still in that gap between the leaders and Pog/Jonas? TV coverage didn't seem to realise.

I thought he did tbf. Covered all vingos attacks in the saddle. A couple of grimaces... As their should be when they climb ventoux 5 mins faster than anyone else

3 minutes faster than Pantani in 2000 and 90 seconds quicker than Mayo's record, which was set in a time trial. I'm sure I read they had a headwind as well.

As a contrast, Yates' climb of Finestre was a very similar amount of time but he did 6.2 w/kg, which on this stage would have put him about at Pantani's time.

It's funnyy reading this recap of Pantani''s 1999 Giro, and they talk of his 3rd place in the TT as being incredulous for a rider of just 57kg. I don't recall TNT saying a thing when Jonas was tearing people apart in the TT.
