I still want Wiggins to win but he has started to do my head in with his saying one thing, then saying another.
I fancy someone like Betancour to be a defent dark horse here, but I still think the winner will come from Wiggins or Nibali.

Put montirolo, angliru and all the other uber climbs to one side, they're still climbing at a decent rate of 20-25km up most of the alpine climbs, even if aerodynamics is a fraction of the factor it is on the flat its still enough to make a difference.

I had a look into this a few weeks back when people were having a pop at the Sky mountain train.

http://www.voler.com/connect/detail/li/RelationshipBetweenDraftingandClimbing has some science on it. They reckon if you're doing 16/17km/hr then any aero advantage is non-existent.

The pros are climbing Alps d'Huez at around the 20km/hr mark, so it might make a tiny difference but nothing really to turn an average climber into a great one. In other words, I don't think if someone pops it would be enough to let them sit on a wheel and be sucked up the climb much faster than they would on their own.

There is the mental side though of course, but that's a wee bit harder to actually quantify. I know personally it's always easier to climb when you're overtaking people. When you're going backwards that's hard to take.

Either way, should be a cracking race. Nibali looks in superb form. We haven't seen much at all from Wiggins this season.

Didn't see any today, did Cavendesh win? He looks good in pink, this is the only sprint really isn't it?
