Couldnt have asked for a better first game in EL

Europa is always going to be the poor mans equivalent of the CL. Lets me honest here if we were regulars in the top table then we would easily look our noses down at this tournament.

As it happens this is currently our level so i would love for us to go all out now and really put us on the map european wise. Imagine the types of players queuing up to sign for us at the end of the season if we won the thing? It is a european tournament and it is a trophy with a good reward. Athletico were happy winning it in recent years and look at the good its done them.

for me i'd rather us be here than be sat at home whilst hull and wigan and swansea are competing instead. Maybe, just maybe we can win the thing, so lets be positive and not care about what anyone else thinks of it.

I mean it wont be long before them lot are in it, or out of europe altogether

It's like the League Cup/FA Cup...everybody wants to win it, but the moment they get knocked out of it, they pretend that they are not interested in it and that it's a rubbish cup.

Evertonians are long overdue silverware, of any description, add the prospect of CL football and there is all the reason you need to take this competition very seriously.

People shouldn't take notice of what the media or supporters of other teams think...

Pretty sure Boro were in two cup finals and a relegation fight... They lost all 3 if I remember rightly.

Is Europa really thought of that badly or is it just a couple of teams getting their excuses in and a few English media outlets belittling it?
Genuinely not sure, only know what's reported in England, I would be surprised if the rest of Europe felt the same.

A big problem IMO is giving the League Cup winners a spot in the competition, as very often that team doesn't have a large enough squad to deal with the added fixtures. They should give that spot to 6th place in the league or the FA cup runners-up or semifinalist. No other country's FA gets 2 spots in europe for 2 different cup competitions. It's also a convenient excuse for any manager whose side is struggling in the league and therefore often gets disparaged in the media.

I for one think it's ace and I can't believe it's been 5 years since we've been in it. Ecstatic to have midweek football again.
