Could losing 4 nil to Liverpool be the greatest thing that ever happened to Everton?

Perhaps if the thread was titled "Why this result might spur us on to better things", then there would be a better chance of having a proper discussion.
But since you chose the title that you did, you shouldn't be too surprised that people aren't really discussing the points you raised in your post and are instead making fun of the title?

Can't be bothered reading that amount of words. Sorry, that was a thumping of such comprehensiveness that the kopites will be talking about it for 20 years. THere is nothing good about that

I'm an optimist but even I couldn't find anything in that match that had a silver lining except for the fact that none of our players were given a red card.

Good try though Fat Stan. I admire you trying to find positives in the situation.

Just to talk on how we lost, Stones had no right going forward and our strong partnership of Jags and Distin was broke up. It was a make shift defense that a quality attack took advantage off. I think, bar Sturridge and Suarez we are better than them. We should keep our chins up, as hard as it may be. I dono if it was the best thing to happen to us but I share the believe with fat stan that it will give us a kick up the arse. Martinez will not need to do too much in his team talk in the next couple of games. We will destroy Villa, I know it. By the time we visit spurs our first team will be back and fresh and we will overwhelm them also. I am not saying we will certainly win but it will be over severe bad luck that we won't. In the next few weeks we will be back in the frame and stronger. I know it. Lets shake this off. I'm sick of excuses in the derby but we have valid excuses for that once-off trashing. As Stan said we will be much better for it.

We got destroyed and people are trying to see positives, I wish I had the same drugs.

I'm not on drugs Goat but I always try to find or see positives in any situation.

Granted that there are some situations where there just aren't any but I tend to agree with the OP's premise that the players will do everything they can to make it right going forward.

Im sorry Bill but there isnt a single positive I can take from getting beat 4-0 by anybody, especially the vermin from across the park, I dont want the players to make it right on Saturday, I wanted them to make it right on Tuesday.

But im not gonna dwell on it, well maybe a few more days, I should be ok for Saturday, thats right, Saturday, the day we dont have a single fit Striker of any note within the squad, cos not only did we get beat 4-0, we lost our only Striker for about a month.

FFS, im going back in the oven.

Liverpool fans would love reading these 'end of the world posts'. It's depressing, hard to take, painful but it was one game. Don't let it define our season in a negative way. Don't give them that. We are Everton. We will catch them. It was a disaster, let them have that but don't give up on top four. Don't kneel down. We are ****ing Everton.

The players and the Manager have had nothing but praise this season, so for the first time they are now being questioned and we will see what they have got. The young lads we have all been building up will now have questions asked about them, are they as good as we think or will the hide? Should be an interesting next couple of games.

Don't blame the op for trying to make some sense out of such a devastating loss.

It has to mean something.

I'm refusing to believe it means that we'll fade away.

This is a massive call to arms.

absolutely.

these things happend to every team from time to time.

we can take a punch

we'll be back, make no mistake

There's been times when one team or the other has lost the derby and then gone on a decent run while the team that won has stuttered.

I think we'll still overhaul them, it's only 4 points, they've got some tough fixtures, we'll start getting some of our better players back.

The derby doesn't define the season, cup finals and league placings do, on both counts we're still in the running.

Let them have their parade and their new flags, draw comfort from how bitter they'll be when Suarez agitates for a move in the summer.
