*resists urge to correct the errors in this post*It has long been something that annoys me greatly watching this endlessly occurring on countless threads.
If it was out of a personal quest to help others I might be more amenable but it is almost without exception used to break rhythm in discussion and to demean someone's argument by passively aggressively belittling then.
If you were at a dinner party and someone continously kept correcting everyones conversational grammar then you would quite rightly think them to be a loathsome social cripple who should be cast into the gutter without pudding.
Anyone who is engaged in this practice should be treated with extreme suspicion and has undoubtedly, if male, never put their willy in a woman.
If it can be understood should be the only real barometer for the informal written word.
All that matters is that you can understand what the poster is saying.
This, and especially that.I mainly do it now if there's a comic reason, or if someone's getting a bit above themselves.

Therein lies the rub. Proper grammar is there to ensure you are understood correctly, and is especially important on the internet due to the lack of nuance in the written word compared to the spoken. See most of Joey's posts, or the wall-of-text rants that some people post.
