I cant see either of them playing behind wingers...and i think we need a top LW and Deulofeu playing every game
This sounds pretty good to me. Can't see us signing a left and right back though personally, (as in to replace either Baines or Coleman).

If we get Coleman back to his best, he can play with a proper winger - and Geri would open up a lot of space for his marauding runs down the right, which seemed to be completely negated through our phenomenal tactics previously!

I am excited, at least.

I hope Kenny can push on and take colemans place, the start he had he was better than coleman has been in 2 seasons.

Depending on who we sign at LW i also hole connolly and galloway can oust baines and oviedo is punted

Galloway is traditionally a CB though, no? Weren't we just playing him LB to get a taste in the prem whilst Oviedo and Baines were injured?

Galloway going forward is literally terrible as well, though he defence is commendable so in that regard I can understand the need for a new top LW to take the attacking role on.

Kenny did look good, but I think we need to see a little more - maybe more pressured situations - to make a fairer assessment of whether he can step in.

Keep dreaming Zat, Coleman and Baines will excel this season. Great players dont become bad players.

If we had an out and out LW whose full on attack with limited defending skill i think galloway would be ideal.

Him, connolly and kenny hopefully come through over the season.

I agree with the original poster. We have a VERY weak squad; the new manager faces a situation almost as bad as the one Moyes inherited.

While Jagielka and Baines probably have a season or two at the top left in them, they can't be considered as part of the club's long term future. We desperately need a goalkeeper, Robles is a second choice at best. Midfield is weak; Barkley is promising but Barry is nearing the end of his career, McCarthy was poor last season, and Gibson and Besic are both injury prone and cannot be depended upon to feature in more than about 50% of our games, while Cleverly is not good enough. Lennon is average at best; Oviedo hasn't recaptured his pre-injury form; Kone and Niasse should never have been permitted to join us, they are wage drains and nothing else. We've lost Howard, Hibbert, Osman and Pienaar. Mirallas and Lukaku are both gifted but inconsistent; the same must be said about Deulofeu.

There are isolated bright spots like John Stones, and we have some promising youngsters coming through. Also, fitness should improve markedly, whilr Koeman will, I am sure, be far superior to Martinez. He does, however, have a massive task in front of him.

Sorry, but there's some woeful shouts at various points in this thread.

Bin off Jags and Barry - two of our best players from last season

Bin off Baines. Bin off Coleman lol

Yeesh.

Not sure if anyone has said bin them off, but they can certainly be improved upon

Surely a lot of the drop off of individual form was due to very poor management last season...the lack of tactics..effort and desire will have hopefully left with the manager.

Take Ross for eg..

Are we saying he is rubbish..or was he poorly managed?

Go back 12 months (maybe a little more) before Martinez got his claws properly into our tactics (particularly with relation to the back 4) Coleman and Baines were widely considered the best full back pairing in the league. Now Baines ok is in his 30's now, but his game was never really based on pace - no reason he can't go on a while longer - and Coleman is coming into his prime.

Put decent tactics in place and these two will be quality again. Absolutely miles from being a priority.
