Conor Sammon a red card

I was expecting this to be a blatant injustice until I saw it on MOTD. It was nothing, to be fair. But Dowd carried out the letter of the law. You cant put a hand near anyone's face without it being a red, and Sammon did look to palm off Carrick to create space.

Ridiculous dismissal, I know. But thems the rules.

What rules this then Dave?

It was an accidental contact, not a deliberate act of raising his hand into an opponents face.

It's true there's no law. But it doesn't stop refs giving it week after week in similar situations. He (Sammon) has seen where Carrick was and put back a hand to fend him off. It was high and hit him in the face.

It isn't the stuff of 'OMG, how could he send him off?' I was led to believe it was.

Must have thought he saw an elbow, though Carrick didn't hit the deck he made plenty of it to emphasize significant contact. I wonder how he would have felt after 45 minutes of tempering Duncan.

Didn't think it was that shocking he got sent off. I agree he shouldn't have been but it was no Rodwell. If the ref thinks there's intent there he has to go.

Yeah thats why i think Dowd did send him off, from where he was standing it looked like the arm was swung back deliberatly.

However its clear from the replays that he was just positioning for the ball and used his arm as lots of players do and accidently caught Carrick.

No different to Fellaini cathcing Holt in the face against Norwich just before Holt elbowed him.
