Conor McAleny loan to Charlton

Good lord

Conor McAleny has returned to Everton today after Charlton Athletic cut short the forward's loan deal.

The highly-rated 23-year-old joined the Addicks on loan on September 14, in a deal which was supposed to see him attached to the club until November 7.

However, interim head coach Karel Fraeye revealed in his press conference today that McAleny has returned to the Toffees.

When asked whether the Charlton dressing room is fragile following their wretched run, the Belgian said: “They are not down, everyone was very disappointed [after the last two results] but we know the only way is to look forward and work hard and the players are willing to do that.

“If players don’t want to do it I’m not going to use them.

“In that case we ended the contract of Conor McAleny today so it needed to give an example.”
McAleny made nine appearances for the Addicks.

So the interim boss didn't think he had the heart for it. Pretty damning stuff.

Wrong

He was very popular with the Charlton fan base and only returned because the club is in turmoil and run by idiots

It makes perfect sense to put him on the bench because he's shown nothing in his one solitary senior game for Everton to suggest he isn't good enough. He's still young (Again, his age is misleading) and he's shown potential. I'd rather him get on the bench than players like McGeady

Don't be under 25 and play for Everton unless you're amazing. If you're just alright, then the knives are out

Some of our supporters remind be of the belligerent fools who run Manchester Schools in "The Headmasters Ritual"

Readying the troops and jealous of youth

Hahaha. Don't tell me I'm wrong, I've got direct quotes from their manager and his loan was cut short. Plus someone else has already provided a link where numerous Charlton fans are criticising him. And he's shown nothing to ever suggest he is good enough. If this game you're talking about is Krasnodar he provided no assists or goals and regularly lost the ball in his own half trying too much. I'm not saying he was awful, but how does that equate to deserving a run in the premier league?

There's no one "getting the knives out", and it's nothing to do with being young as Howard, Kone, Distinct, Alcaraz and McGeady would know. Most players aren't good enough and we can't just give them a game anyway because they're "young".

So, Mikey, we are going to pretend that he is not 23 but 21 according to some strange reasoning.

We are going to pretend that he was a hit with the Charlton fans, even though (and you know I follow the loans quite closely) that was patently not the case. (Generally speaking, a few thought he was OK and some thought he was crap, but none of them thought he was setting the place on fire, including the staff.)

We are going to pretend that he is an able replacement for any of our regular first team players, despite the fact that he has never done much when he has played for a first team in a non-preseason game either here or elsewhere.

We are going to pretend that there is a conspiracy that only you and a select few can see between our academy bosses, our manager and the supporters to ensure that young players do not make it through to the first team - even though we have had more young players in our first team squad than I can remember for years. (And the fact that he hasn't made it onto the bench in those circumstances might tell even you something.)

I would love nothing better than for McAleny to turn out to be a big hit. It might be, and I would put the chances at less than 5%, that he turns out to be an Osman and is a good squad player. Far more likely, I would say, that he will go to League One and have a decent career if injuries don't affect him.

Nice lad, but one of those ones where he's decent enough but hasn't quite got over the last hurdle (see Duffy, Bidwell, Forshaw, etc.).

(Now if you want to get into a good wind-up you might try a discussion on Garbutt and whether he will make it.)

That was in 2011. He made his first team debut in 2011, and he's still here and probably hasn't played another first team game since. I do wonder why he signed a new contract, he'll end up wasting half of his career playing for our under 21s and then sign for someone like Bury when his contract is up

Yeh i remember that moyes was the manager. Think we got a draw or beat 1-0. Under moyes it was nearly a result against one of the big boys.
