Goes against the norm, I guess, but I pretty much agree with what happened...I have a feeling Martinez did what he did with the lineup to let people play themselves out so they can't have a moan. They either played well and helped us or let what needed to happen, happen...and it did.

He dug himself a hole with an awful line up but he did what he needed to do to get himself out of it.

By itself, it's pretty impressive but he better not make a habit of it. Much better to get it right from the start.

It could have been deliberate. Play some attrition football against West Ham first half (where they got lucky) get them thinking they had us worked out, cancelling each other out, putting in all their effort.

With the plan always being subs to change the entire dimension of things at half-time, bringing a load more danger onto confused and tired West Ham players.

I'm not sure we'd have got the result starting with Lukaku and McCarthy and Ovideo today, in the circumstances. Although we could have. I'm still burning up with a fever after the game. Intense.

Brilliant! I'm not one for moaning about the moyst one, but he often put us down in the media, which hardly instilled a belief in the players that we could be better.

Agreed. I was a Martinez-doubter during the whole refresh-Oddschecker-every-5-minutes saga, I'll be overjoyed if he proves me wrong. The season's long, but after 5 games we're looking very good.

I expected good things from this season with the new fella at the helm and Roberto has duly delivered, thus far. Really happy with things atm. The squad looks great and we've sorted out all our really weak areas now, it'd seem.

There's absolutely no question now where we should be aiming for this year. Let's get the sh*te behind us asap and kick on. They might have Suarez coming back, but we've got Lukaku. Top 6 is where we should be gunning for as we have, for this season at least, a top class striker on the books that is completely perfect for our style. If we'd had him last season, we'd have taken at least one of Arsenal and Spurs and probably both.

If he can get us to tighten up at the back and eradicate just a few of the errors, we're a f*cking Hell team. Feels great to say!

Yeah, you would think that would be enough. It's good that he can correct his mistakes.

But no he was right with his starting line up and he was right at half time. He has to be right all the time.

Beyond the question of how just exactly how hard jelavic and osman have worked to earn their place when they never get dropped, surely the first 45 minutes answered that question.

You pick your best team and that's Lukaku and McCarthy. It's cowardice to not drop players just because they won. A good manger has to be ruthless.

We gave west ham a 45 minute head start and it's to martinez' credit that we managed to win anyway but it's still not desirable to do so.

What's the problem with both praising him for the half time switch and saying he made a mistake with his starting line up?
