Pewdipie?? Kids shouldn't be allowed to watch YouTube ffs :(

it's massive with the kids: mates of mine who are dads tell me theirs are addicted to these Let's Play/Walkthrough game videos: they don't play the games themselves, or even care much about the game being played, rather they're following their cult of celebrity.

that their celebrity isn't even creating the main artform himself is something new: normally kids would follow rock stars, actors or footballers who at least directly created the content.

I fear for the future creativity of this generation.

Games today have lost "plug and play" - I don't have the patience/time for them.

I have three;

Football Manager - feels like a choir. Too much to do. Training sessions, games take ages - press conferences that drag on...
Star Wars Battlefront - Just when you think you're getting the hang of it, it all changes. There's now about 500 different
FIFA 17 - Put it on last night. 'The Journey', you're not wrong ffs. Binned that. Put career mode on - what's all this? Grow shirt sales 30%? etc etc. Took me 20 minutes to get to a game and Goodison was less accurate than the last FIFA I played - 15.

They should have all stopped after ISS Pro.

Aye always hated the singing in those games.

Nintendo are revealing their new console at 3 today. Im intrigued, but they've lost my custom after the pathetic Wii U.
Think the problem with nintendo should also be applauded.

What you have essentially is either the xbox/ps which is just a box playing games. Nothing exciting and will sell by the bucketload despite technologically being terrible. Then you have nintendo who try to make something different, something more fun. the Wii, DS, to name 2 changed how gaming was viewed in the mianstream, the gameboy is the best of all time in retrospect and the SNES was obviously king back in its day.

their biggest problem is the fact they don't have any support for the thing. they don't inhouse develop enough games to support it and external/ 3rd party support is minimal as well. That is why Wii U failed, that and the fact they called it Wii U to piggy back the success.

The new one will be from what i can tell, be a cross between a wii and a ds, which if they get right could be fantastic.

It's no way different than any actor?
They aren't the one who writes the script.
Creative is creative.

I don't have that much of a problem with it, except that it seems to be way overblown. I mean, there must be plenty of people who watch sports etc on tv but who don't/have no interest in actually playing them. Certainly I have a few youtubers who I follow and watch them play a mixture of games I play, would like to play, or just watch as it's entertaining.

My thinking is that because the kids are skipping a creative step in following their chosen thing, they will grow up with less sparks of inspiration than previous generations.

- an actor creatively interprets a role written for him, this inspires.
- a footballer creatively interprets the tactics written for him, this inspires.
- a youtuber plays the game as anyone else would, but adds lots of shouting and loud graphics...this inspires?

...or maybe i'm just getting old lol

Theres still a creative element, the comedy combined with clever editing e.t.c.
Not everyone likes the same stuff, probably just not your thing mate.

I suppose there is.

I did enjoy Markiplier's closing sermon on Soma, if only he cut out the loud shouting (deffo getting old, haha)

As just one example FRANKIEonPC's youtube channel is predominantly Day Z/Arma videos that often follow a scripted narrative that have required a fair bit of talent and creativity to produce.

Of course you have the other end of the spectrum with Pewdie Pie etc who are far more popular but I think that this is more a reflection of society rather than a cause of those behaviours.

Simple minds will always gravitate towards less complex forms of entertainment.

Frankie is proper brilliant, personally though I gravitate towards irreverent humour.
My favorite is Mr Sark, he did some completely off the wall comedy when Machinima was still a thing, and still keeps that whilst crafting really well edited videos.

Well as per the bad actor thread, your first point may be moot! :p The biggest issue I see myself is people growing up wanting to be YouTubers and thinking they can get famous just by playing a game, and not necessarily even being good at it. Much like many in today's society already expecting things handed to them, and lowering the bar even further from wanting to be a pop-star/footballer! :o
