Computer games.

Kindom Rush Frontiers..

Proof that a well designed and nuanced game will always stand out against the crowd.
haven't played a more addictive game for ages.

I agree, but I hate the trend of paying for a game only for it to be a glorified type of Freemium game.

Charge the fee up front or don't charge a fee and have in game purchases - not both FFS.

Anyone who hasn't played Risk 2 should give it a go. Based on the strategy board-game and released in 2000 so played it with my dad in my early childhood, went back to play it with a few friends before and it was a lot of fun! It's that old you can probably get it somewhere for free so would certainly recommend it for something to play with friends!

evening mate how are you today.

Just finished watching a The Last of Us playthough (yes I know, I should of played it but sadly don't own a PS3 and not able to get a hold of one so had to at least not miss out on it).

Just wanted people's thoughts on it? No spoilers like. Found it so good in my opinion, none of this simple gameplay and a game that is not simplistic emotionally and does tug on the heartstrings as well as create crazy tension and adrenalin. No doubt it will get game of the year 2013.

Stunning game. The perfect swansong for the PS3, IMO.

The visuals are great, the story is great and the interplay between the characters is fantastic.

Deserves the GOTY award.

Spot on mate, wasnt able to see first hand the visuals as I said due to having to watch it on YouTube but from what I've been told it looks beautiful. Deffo going to lend a ps3 off a family member this summer and try and get a copy.

I just love story lines that are not simple, games are meant to be emotional and really connect you with characters etc, one of the reasons I love Metal Gear Solid so much. Some games have just dumbed down the standards of video games now, I know im only nearly 18 but I can still see how it has changed, especially when my 14 year old cousin says that he isn't very interested in single player games. Fully deserves game of the year.

It's up there with Mario 3, ISS Deluxe, FFVII and MGS 1 as one of my favourite games of all time.

I know it sounds premature, but as you said, it's massively engrossing. Be it aesthetically or whatever, there's always something that gets your interest. The relationship between Joel and Ellie, for example. The way it starts and then progresses, is just immense.

The modern gamer is hugely restricted to on-line, unfortunately. But all the while juggernauts like FIFA and CoD are dominating the market, others will follow suit. I'll bet your cousin plays these almost exclusively? That's not me having a go, BTW, as I batter them myself!! But for a game to stand up like TLoU has for story etc, is nothing short of superb, IMO.

Thats one big appeal, the progression or demise of character relationships or just different character branches and quite a few key characters are left for the imagination to run wild!

And oh no, don't worry I understand your not having a go! But those two are exactly the games that he excessively plays aha. And once again I'm not being patronising, I play FIFA quite a bit and like battlefield, but you can still now see the devide between older games and the newer generation. The biggest franchises thrive off multiplayer and to an extent it is a very good addition to gaming as it adds a lot of replayability to a game, it doesn't end. But at the same time, I feel like it has slightly dumbed down the gaming audience and has taken away from single player which IMO should always be the focal point of a video game. Some modern gamers are not appealed by story driven games, narratives that make you think, make you feel Etc. I just feel that the younger generation of gamers don't truly appreciate a gaming masterpiece such as The Last of Us. I feel that is the reason why the industry is thought by many to be a low art form, something I explored in both my media and film coursework aha.

I know the game is getting its just rewards critically but I really hope this gets the credit and gross it deserves.

The ability to shoot your mate in the face while you're in different abode, shouldn't be underestimated, TBH.

I enjoy CoD/FIFA/Battlefield/Pro Evo etc, but I'm a NES/SNES kid at heart. And we didn't have no on-line functionality! Our idea of multiplayer was chucking the multi-taps in and having 8 player on ISS Deluxe. Needless to say, it got a bit crowded in our houses!!

I'll always plump for the story-driven games. I'm not for this style over substance bollocks, TBH. Although, it is becoming more and more difficult to find 'good' story driven games these days.

Games, or rather gaming, is becoming more and more 'acceptable' though, and whilst I don't think that games will ever be considered a highbrow art form, their increasing popularity cannot be ignored.

Picked up the Jak and Daxter trlogy for PS3 the other day. Loved the first when I was younger, and I'm on good council the 2nd and 3rd are much better.
