Computer games.

Why would you buy a console if you're not in to gaming? They do nothing more than a blue ray player and a smart TV could do, otherwise.

Hard to play the latest and greatest when your GPU's gimped.

At least at 4k...that's a massive hit. It might be latest and greatest in name but it won't look like it due to GPU limitations...especially if you're talking games like CoD where they're typically pushing render boundaries in the name of realism. GPU's are at the heart of the vast majority of triple-A titles these days, it's not something to dismiss out-of-hand. As long as they're not leaving features out of game engines to accommodate lesser consoles, it's all good.

Gaming used to push boundaries with hardware but it's becoming increasingly more of a money grab...the plethora of absolutely crap phone games is proof of that and that lax thinking needs to stay out of console/PC gaming.

You can add all the cores you want to a processor but they can't compete with the raw compute power of GPU's (that you need to push pixels) due to things like branch prediction etc etc...totally different methodoligies. If it was easy, Intel would have done it a long time ago and you'd be able to play anything on your built-in Intel graphics.

A chopped up GPU doesn't extend the life of your console if you want games like CyberPunk to keep being developed.
Plenty of people buy consoles just to play COD and Fifa. Not sure where you are going with this but we’ll agree to disagree.

I thought it was just the same game but with updated squads. Didn't realise the game play changed. Have they done anything to fix the awful refereeing from last year ?
It feels quite different, they’ve sorted out the physicality and improved the braindead defensive AI thankfully! The refs seem significantly better as well thankfully. Myclub is still insanely frustrating though

I mainly stick to master league, one with a mate, and then my own one. Last year's was brilliant bar the awful refereeing, absolutely no penalties given etc. I'll go and get it during the week.

Have you looked into option files for it, the one I'm looking at doesn't release til mid October but given the transfers carry on later this year that's fair enough.

I’ve got the Pesuniverse file for PS4 - it’s alright, but they’ll release more complete versions soon

What I'm getting at is it's all marketing garbage. You really don't want console makers putting out "lesser" versions when it comes to core hardware (basically proc/gpu/ram)...locked-in hardware has always been a strong point of consoles but they've obviously decided they want to force the issue. Why? It's pure marketing to try and get console sales out of the loss leader bracket quicker, if not instantly, by using a cheap(er) to buy and make console to justify the price on the more expensive one they know most are going to go for.

If you remember, release price of the XBox One was $499 and sales were garbage, so it was quickly reduced. No need to keep the price low now, though, seeing as there's an even cheaper version. Don't want to pay? Get the cheap one, son! It's strictly there for price justification, no more, no less. It's not good for console gamers, IMO. It also muddies the waters of game development as the hardware gutting is significant. Significant enough, in fact, that I wouldn't be surprised at all if they'll now be making a profit off both of the low and high end versions instead of losing on just the one.

And it's laughable that they're using 1440p as a benchmark for the low end version too, seeing as you're not going to find a run-of-the-mill living room TV from a big box store that natively runs at that resolution; it's going to be 1080p or 4K, so it's a moot point if your TV is native 4k because now you're introducing scaling in to the mix. A lot of people are going to have no idea what I'm talking about but us long time PC gamers know all about what is and isn't important.

It's a shame console gamers are going to have to deal with it more and more, too. Consoles shouldn't be coming with core hardware design compromises...and that's coming from PC Master Race nerd. But yes, I'll agree to disagree.

Man, you are acting like it is going to be powered by a month old potato!!!

The 'gimped' version will still put out 60fps at 1440p! That is still some serious chops!

Xbox....it is just a branded PC now. Even more so with Microsoft pushing the UWP that will link the two platforms.

Can I point out, 1440p looks a hell of a lot better scaled up to 4k than 1080p scales to 4k.

There is always the rumoured windows mode it could come with as well......

I gave in and bought Crusader kings 3, I'm 12 hours in and still mostly clueless on what i am doing although I have just taken Northumbria, my first victory haha bloody hard game, so much to learn but at least it has a little tutorial otherwise it's very overwhelming.

I've even put Terraria down for it, even Minecraft and Stardew Valley are still in the to play list after Terraria lol

I will be. Always been a Playstation player over Xbox. I did have the original Xbox and 360 but didn't bother with the One

Might get an Xbox further down the line depending on exclusives that become available.
I had the PS2, but have been Xbox since the 360 came out.

Not 100% decided yet but I’m pretty sure I’m shifting over to the PS this generation. The exclusives always seem to be a lot better than the Xbox ones.

Looking forward to video game simulator at the end of the year. You play as a bloke sitting in his room playing video games. But it’s very realistic. You got to deal with being rejected on tinder and your parents telling you to get a job. The key to succeeding is to maintain having accommodation in order to play or its game over.
