Yeh and thing is without the guys help I’d never have probably even tried another PSU. He did some trick to jump it to prove it wasn’t working.

So on Sunday, my replacement PSU (not from Amazon) should come, plug the cables in, test and that’s that hopefully.

A dead power supply is the best possible fault to have - easiest to fix as long as it hasn't blown the motherboard/CPU somehow before it died.

You'll be fine. My parents had the same issue very recently.

shame that spoilt your 1st self build, but hopefully you learnt enough to attempt it again when its time to upgrade.

Nothing better than building a PC to your own specifications

It’ll also be my very first negative review on Amazon which I’m going to enjoy.

Don't be too harsh...shiz happens. Believe it or not, I've yet to buy a new part that was bad right out of the package and my first full build was somewhere around 20 years ago. I've been through about 7 or 8 full builds in that time; not counting others built for friends/family, which would put me well above 30 for personal use and who-the-hell-knows-how-many on the business side but I don't count those. I've been super lucky. I had one IBM 'Deskstar' (which got the "deathstar" moniker back then) HD fail on me and an old EPoX motherboard that suffered from the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague issue but those were all post build.

I've dealt with more compatibility and software issues than genuine hardware issues over the last 2 decades. You wouldn't believe how simplified it's become nowadays. No DIP switches, no jumper settings, installing a new version of DirectX doesn't FUBAR your Windows install to the point of having to clean install again, blahblahblah. It's a lot simpler now, typically...especially with all the online help.

Enjoy...

Yeh was only kidding, to be fair to Amazon I order something off there most weeks and it’s always sound, this was one just baffling to give me a dead product.

Looking back at building it, it wasn’t difficult at all in reality, I’m confident I could do another in just a couple of hours I think.

Paper clip test.
