Thought this was a very well written piece.

In my view, there is no comparison. Harvey's ability on the ball surpassed some of the better known 'artists'. He was also a tenacious tackler and a terrier in hounding the opposition.

Depends whether you want a Pukka Pie or fillet steak.

Colin Harvey is Everton royalty, played for his boyhood club, won a league title and cups, was part of a successful management team, managed the team in his own right and then worked as a successful coach for academy. He's the real deal when we think of Everton legends.

Heath was a fine player no doubt but it would be Harvey everyday of the week every week of the year..

Got to be Colin Harvey for me. Inchy was such a vital cog in the success of the 80s and a great player. However, Harvey was simply pure midfield class in the first Everton team I saw...a limousine of a side that I was proud to see glide to a deserved league title.

I remember a trip to West Ham in the early 70's and getting there at half time to find the Blues up 2-0. West Ham got back to 2-2 and King Colin crashed home a 20-harder to win the game... one of my all-time favourite memories of him.
A fantastic person off the field too, the word legend does not do him justice.

Great thread. I went for Harvey by a mile because of his sheer ability as aplayer over several years. He was a truly outstanding player not out of place in the Holy Trinity at all. A bit shot shy but had everything else to be a top class midfielder.
I loved Heath. I think he was underrated and lost some potential standing in the greatness stakes because Gray picked up so quickly as soon as Heath was injured in the 84-85 season.overshadowed by Lineker's goals next season too. He was an excellent link between midfield and attack because he was so mobile and nippy. He did the link play AND did the role of second forward in a 4-4-2 scoring a fair few himself but keeping possession from Sharp's headers. Excellent touch pass and move player. Would be ace in this team.

Said it before and not too proud to say it again, but Colin Harvey should be asked to mentor Ross Barkley. If Colin Harvey could pass on just a small percentage of his experience and footballing wisdom to young Ross, imagine the player Ross could become... the mind boggles at the thought.

Debut aged 18, inter Milan away in European cup!!! I think he hit crossbar and we went out on away goals.

Good point actually because guess what?......the crowd was slow to warm to harvey!!! I kid you not. Thr parallels are strong.

Heath was a fine player for Everton, no question he made a big impact and became a firm fan favourite, but Colin Harvey is an Everton immortal, a true Blue legend and he deserved that banner hung over the electric scoreboard against Wolves, on the Saturday after he was sold to Sheffield Wednesday. Both fine Evertonians, but Harvey eclipses Heath and many, many others.

Yip.

Another mis-match.

And never looked back... this thread has stirred up so many great memories of the 60's and early 70's, I'm reaching for the tissues my eyes are watering up that much.
EARTH CALLING BK... get that statue of the Holy Trinity commissioned NOW !! And while you're at it, don't forget one for the Golden Vision !!
