What do you mean, why?

Why is it right or fair for people to take the piss out of someone for what they believe? If someone wants to believe in something then it's their right and it's disrespectful to take the piss out of that.

I think we should be able to challenge anything we want, infact its healthy to challenge peoples views. I always enjoy when someone puts a point to me that makes me think. Some people take challenges like this is a form of "taking the piss", but maybe people need to think a little more about what they believe in.

For me (as an atheist), i find anyone who believes in God or Ghost stark raving mental, but i respect everyones belief. But because i respect beliefs, doesnt mean I cant question it, and if I questions things in a way that people find "taking the piss" thats not my problem.

Surprise... It's fine to believe in something different, but why should you 1) feel the need to take the piss and therefore make someone feel like a fool or feel bad for believing in what ever they like and 2) Why can you not just accept that people believe in different things and let them get on with it without having to try to change their view? That's one thing I really don't understand.

And by you I mean anyone who does the same.

Also, I don't care if you "find anyone who believes in Ghost stark raving mental" but don't bother to call me anything of the sort. That isn't respecting beliefs. :)

One of the major blights on human kind. Capitalising on people's vulnerabilities to make money via complete nonsense.

Worse than religion. Derek Acorah and John Edward are utter scum, both proven frauds.

Annoyingly, there probably are real "psychics", for want of a better term, but it wouldn't be none of this cold reading or stage theatrics nonsense you see from Acorah/Edward or from a gypsy fair or whatever.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_reading - that explains away 99% of psychics/mediums. Anyone can do it, but it takes a Grade A tosser to exploit vulnerable people with it for money.

some people have more money than sense though, people cant afford their heating whilst soft arse's pay for Derek Acorah's next spray tan

The differance between respecting someone's beliefs and taking the piss is massive though and I think that is what hsd is on about. Think anyone should be allowed to have a opinion and express their own opinion however I think it is wrong to take the piss out of a opinion, especially when speaking of religion or someone's beliefs of the afterlife. Ps not saying you we're taking the piss just a overall opinion from someone who believes in god and the afterlife ec etc

Im not going to bother calling you anything cause for the simple reason I dont know you, i respect what you believe but when the topic comes up i will ask the questions cause i want to know more about what drives people to believe in something which cant be proved or captured.

To clarify, point 1 - i havent taken the piss out of anyone on here, i made the Rod Hull thing to ask an obvious question, its not taking the piss. If anyone feels I have, then they have to deal with it.

Point 2 - I feel challenging things is a better thing for the human race to do. How else do we understand things better? I accept peoples belief and totally respect that, but my belief is that the more we understand things the better. I dont understand why anyone would believe something just for the sake of comfort? if it doesnt exist or doesnt happen, then people are willing to be happily fooled??? Fine. IF i contest the belief, then its not me in the wrong.

I've said exactly why I believe in the afterlife, I don't care if I'm a fool, I couldn't go through my life knowing I'll never ever get to have a conversation with my Granddad, and if you honestly think I'm "stark raving metal", to quote you from earlier, for giving myself a little bit of hope then so be it.

Personally, I think it would be good if you could actually consider people's reasons, rather than ask them questions to 'learn' but then just put them down for it. Not everyone believes in things that can be proved, some people have a bit more imagination than that. Maybe they like to be dreamers, there's nothing wrong with that at all. :)

Living TV’s psychic and spiritualist medium Derek Acorah, 56, was asked to explain allegations of deception where he claimed to have taken on the identity of a long-dead South African male known as Kreed Kafer - an anagram of Derek Faker, which had been allegedly used by a Most Haunted crew member in ear shot of Acorah to discredit him during a recent shoot at Bodmin GAOL. The shows resident academic and sceptic Ciaran O’Keeffe of Liverpool’s Hope University has backed up this claim and said, “I only devised this plan to see if Derek was deliberately hoodwinking the public.”However we can exclusively reveal after months of silence that Acorah has finally given his version of events. He told us, “I’d just like to say on virtually all psychic activity, I rely on my spiritualist guide I call Sam, but sometimes I rely heavily on my own spiritual guilds that are a custom to my surroundings and the atmosphere that I am upon. When I get possessed, I cannot remember any of the actions of who has taken over me or that of my surroundings. On this occasion where the spirit Kreed Kafer came to me, I can say that I had, yes had been taken over by an entity, but the identity would have been other than that of the name that came from me. One explanation of what could have occurred is that the spirit that took on board myself had heard one of the crew members mention the character Kreed Kafer and this individual took on that name by means of fraud or because many people in the very distant past did not have names so this entity decided to use the one he had overheard. Another explanation is that I did hear in passing the name Kreed Kafer, and when I did take on board the spirit I made a genuine mistake and wrongly associated this name with the spirit. I am human and can make mistakes, especially when I am under the pressure of a reading or being taken over by an overbearing entity. I do however have a strong successful following in the spiritualist field and I do believe that I am a genuine medium. I am sorry if any of my lovely fans were offended by this mistake.”We asked O’Keeffe about Acorah’s version and he told us “I believe the public will see through this as all we are seeing is showmanship and dramatics”.It is claimed that Acorah was asked to leave by the shows production company Antix, but is now involved in a similar ghost hunting format on cable TV.
he was with a living with a mate of of my girlfreinds, not sure if they were married , not once in that time did he say anything about his supposed gift, she says one of these days she is going to go to one of his shows and sit right in the front just to freak him out, the man is a fraud, not to sure they all are tho
