Coleman and McCarthy.

Didn't Coleman have a soft tissue injury and not a hamstring issue??

For a lad who barely missed a game last year, he's been a big loss for his width, runs, support play and out ball from the goalie and centre backs.
Oh, and a goal threat

Ok, but apart from the width, runs, support play and out ball from the goalie and centre backs, and the goal threat. What has Coleman ever done for us?

Roberto Martinez has confirmed Sylvain Distin is ready to return to the Everton line-up this weekend against Aston Villa - with Ross Barkley having an outside chance of joining him.

The trio of Seamus Coleman, James McCarthy and Steven Pienaar are also pushing to be fit for the visit of Paul Lambert's side.

Defender Distin's last outing came in September’s Capital One Cup defeat at Swansea City, while Barkley is yet to make an appearance this term. A return for Distin would be timely given the injury to deputy John Stones, while Evertonians will be desperate to see Barkley, last season's Young Player of the Season, back in action.

"Sylvain had a knock - a dead leg - after the Swansea game,"said Martinez on Thursday. "He's such a professional that sometimes he works too hard, someone who's not just happy with what he does with the team - he's got individual programmes too. "I considered it was right for him to have a little bit of a break and regenerate but Sylvain is training well and is fully refreshed now. He's ready to fight for his place.

"Ross is really close. He's had a very good period of work now. He came back to the group on Monday and reacted extremely well. "Sometimes you forget what a sensational footballer he is and when you see him in full flow, it's a bit infectious around the place. "He's desperate to play. It's too early to tell if he's going to be involved on Saturday but I don't see him being too far away."

That the trio of McCarthy, Coleman and Pienaar are also to be assessed ahead of Saturday's sell-out was further good news and Martinez added: "We're very positive on all of those. "They're very close to being available. If they're not available for the weekend, I expect them to be available for the Europa League game [against Lille].

"Kevin Mirallas is not yet ready, that's a longer lay-off, but he's also progressing well."

...sounds promising. If we are able to hang on in there and pick up a few wins we might be reasonably well placed.

These two need to be back for Lille. We can't go into a major European game away from home without them. At home to Villa we may just get away with Hibbert and Besic if the rest of the team play to their proper levels and we get at them early. Here's to hoping they play both, though.
