They'll just do what Chelsea did. Spend a shedload of money on second-tier players for a couple of years and then go nuts when their squad is stronger.
Just my thoughts mate. first couple of years, Chelsea didn't really buy anyone who would have been first choice for one of the big guns, Madrid, Barca, Milan, Inter, Utd. or Arsenal. Only Makelele. The likes of Lampard, Drogba and Cole became stars as Chelsea started to win leagues and get to the later stages of the CL. City will have to be patient and do something similar. Possibly Mourinho raised the profile of Chelsea and helped to attract big names. But even now their big names are generally past their best. Ballack, Shevshenko for example.

Yep, it was definitely a progressive plan. Their only really wasteful nonsense signings were very early on into their new money. It was like Abramovich said, "Ok here's a hundred million to make you better than most of the league, you can forget about value for money just get us up there." And then after that almost all their signings have been good value (bar a couple). Drogba, Essien, Carvalho were all very expensive, but are some of their best players.

Should be intresting Ferguson says today that City tried to sign five players on transfer deadline day and only got Robinho, you can sign as many players as you want but you its harder to make a team. In some ways managers with to much money, make woefull decisons and are under more pressure then managers at the bottom or middle of the leauge!

They'll get some good players - just not the global elite that they seem to be targeting.

Guys that're unhappy at their current clubs and fancy a go in the best league on the planet or are in Portugal/France or smaller clubs where the wages aren't that high and they feel like boosting their bank balance.

Can see them getting guys like Podolski, Saviola, Veloso, Ben Arfa, Downing, McGeady, Tevez, Grosso, Moutinho, Toulalan, Mandanda or Amelia plus those 2 Brazilian's that Robinho's recommended (demanded?!) - Thiago Silva & Kleber.

Wonder if Michael Johnson will be surplus and find his way to us on the cheap...

i believe that figure is nearly 3 times what we've spent on our entire squad in transfer fees...

edit: my math was slightly off, we've paid about 51 million in transfer fees for our entire squad, its only 2.5 times the value of our entire squad for a single player... thats sure to be a sound investment

Casillias is awesome and awesome isn't worth 129M. Does that mean Timmy is only 2.5% the player Casillias is though? Howard OUT!!!!!!

good point, if they'll pay 129 million for casillas, surely they'll pay atleast 90 million for howard, lets sell him and use the money to pay off our debt completely, then we'll let the financial crisis take care of all of our competitors, and compete with hull for every trophy from then on out

Another thing is....those top players Citeh are going for have had all the top teams after them and they, and they clubs, have said "no". So the fact Citeh turn up and throw stupid amounts of cash at them isnt going to make any difference.

Its not like Real Madrid, Barca etc are cash strapped so they'd rather keep their talent than see them off.

The only team I think who have star players and are cash strapped are Valencia. But a player like Villa turned down the [Poor language removed] and a host of other clubs throwing cash around in the summer.

even real madrid shouldn't turn down 129 million, with that combined with their already enormous cash reserves, they could literally buy every good player in the world

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has rejected a move to Manchester City. The Premier League big spenders tabled a world record £129m bid. (Private Spanish radio station Cadena Ser)

If true....you can see it coming. Only mercinaries will go to Citeh at the moment, one wanting big payouts.

I think Hughes will just have to go for the good-to-average range players and pay stupid amounts of money for them because I cant see them bagging a "superstar". Robinho was a one off.
Wonder what Joe Hart thinks if this is true? I hate that cocky cuunt!

I thought Chelsea would ruin football with over inflated prices for players. But for city to even think of bidding £129m for a [Poor language removed] goalkeeper is just taking the piss.
