Christmas Too Early

I grew up Catholic and in my adult years became an evangelical Christian (as in not praying to the saints kind of Christian - just to illustrate the difference). But I have never, never, ever put up Christmas trimmings at home. No tree and tinsels. Never have. Never will.

When my kids were little, they used to get stacks and stacks of presents from relos. They were allowed to keep one and the rest given to charities. They're now young adults and teens and they have never associated Christmas with material things. They've never asked me for a Christmas present and likely never will.

To you young people out there, who will one day have kids, don't get them started. It is enough they know they are loved. And teach them to love others. It will hold them in good stead. :)

Each to their own I say.So long as everyone is happy in their nappy.

thats brilliant

will take your ideas on board

surely easter is a bigger deal to christians than christmas?
Christmas was the birth, but the birth of Jesus meant nothing without the ressurection?

Im suprised christians dont throw big partys on easter sunday.

As for the over-kill marketing at christmas, I cant stand it. I dont take part in it, and tend to focus on seeing the family.

We actually left up the garland type thing on the back of the front door (inside), kind of noticed it in about September and thought we may as well keep it up. Christmas decorations evening is a nice little tradition we've established in our few years as a family; whack the tree up after school, decorate the walls and stuff and then dash off to the pub for as much beer as possible before it gets too late.

Christmas parties and drunken girls/boys are the best thing about it. And the smell of a Norway Spruce.

The traditions, and the magical view of Christmas that kids have, are what make it.

I always look forward to it, but every year it seems to fall short of expectations.
