Oh for God's sake people don't start getting on Martinez's back about not playing him now. That's classic that is. He was miles and miles away from ready for the prem. Hopefully he's ready now.

Just in time for our push for 9th. Great signing.

To me the AFCON is comparable to the MLS. Looks like a decent standard, people score the odd worldie and some players looks decent.

2014 MLS MVP?

Robbie Keane. Let's buy him now. He's the MVP so therefore he'll be great for Everton in one of the most competitive and probably the most intense league in the world. GG

And why do you think that when each premier league team looses 2 or 3 of their players every time?

Man City lost Toure and Bony alone. It might not be the quality of the Euros but it's not far off.

I can't see McGeady winning player of the tournament there. Martinez needs to make a choice and make sure the one he chooses plays enough in the league so he's in form for the Europa games.

I honestly think it miles off the euros. There's no elite teams. There's 3 or 4 in Europe. There's a much lower number of good teams too.

Looking good at the AFCON isn't necessarily that much to shout about, however if anyone thinks Atsu doing so well is anything other than a good thing, then they're being silly. He's struggled for confidence and looked hesitant in his brief cameos for us. If winning the player of the tournament and goal of the tournament in your continental trophy can't give you a boost, then nothing can. Hopefully with the minutes under his belt and the boost in morale, he can play a more prominent role for us.

Hope he gets a good chance in the Europa, Lennon is ineligible anyway and the pace seems closer to that of European/AFCON.

So basically, Atsu has gone from no-hoper that people wanted to send back in January, to an exciting prospect for the rest of the season? Feels a bit like a new signing really, I didn't think it was possible for a squad to benefit from sending players to the AFCON, just ask Man City haha

Confidence is a huge factor in football so hopefully he'll come back a far better player.

That being said I still don't have high hopes. He doesn't even look very good on YouTube against some woeful defending.

....watched a little bit of AFCON, the tournament is certainly littered with star players. It's also littered with some very poor players and amazingly naive tactics and refereeing standards. Quite polar. Saying that, it's always an achievement to be names star player of any international tournament, let's not knock that. Hopefully he can start showing some form for us, he's been poor thus far.
