Christian Atsu

Tbh it was nice to see us mix it up a bit and try to use his pace by playing a long ball over the defence.
He will learn from those misplaced passes too.

I think this is crucial. Everton need to mix up their play. Lukaku always makes an early run and if you have someone pacey like Atsu then you need to play the ball when they have space to utilise their pace. A slow patient build up like we have against some sides, won't get the best out of those two players especially. We just need to know when to mix it up at times.

Completely agree, and it's obviously getting harder for us to break down teams who have studied us and know what we're doing.
I just think atm Barry is the only one with the vision/experience who actively looks and attempts a pass which doesn't follow the pattern of our play and takes the opposition by surprise.

hope he starts today. missed the palace match so only saw highlights but he looked very decent, less edgy than delafeou, which you'd expect given their ages.

but he looked decent and very rapid, i think he can cause a lot of problems - but of course, i only seen the times he got past his man ha.

I thought he was quiet in the first half, some decent runs off the ball and a couple of half chances. second half started the same, then BOOM! he races past two defenders and pulls the ball back, after this run he is looking for the ball and really getting involved. I think 'here we go'. Then martinez subs him. i have know idea why you would take a natural wide man off when trying to get behind 10 men.

We need to try and get to the by-line which was something Deulofeu for all his faults at least attempted although maybe too much in his case.

I like Atsu. From what I've seen I think he will be a better option than McGeady. Atsu has a brilliant record when playing for his other teams so I think we should give him time.

I also think he will get more involved in the buildup than McGeady and we've missed that a little since Pienaar's and Ross' injury.

watching back the highlights it seemed all the wrong subs sadly. stones off? should have moved him to centre back and took one of the others off if he was desperate to move mccarthy back. mccarthy was then well out of position for the 3rd, giving the winger way too much space and then osman in centre midfield? why not have gibson or besic there, he dallies on the ball in the area of the pitch where he always seems to make a cock-up and that leads to the 3rd and game over.

From the flashes i seen of atsu on sunday he looked like the player Deufleu should have been for us. Not the finished article by any means but direct and dangerous and someone who gives us an option.

i will be made up when he signs his permanent deal in the summer.

In that way mate?

I think this is an excellent point. Barry does look a little like our playmaker at the moment, and this is most probably because Naismith is more of a forward than a midfielder and there wants 'feeding' rather than wants to get involved in the creating. With him playing further forward looking to get on the end of things, it means Barry has to take the mantle which to be fair hes done quite well so far.

Most obvious statement of the year - we are missing Barkley, for the above reason of creating but also to become a three-man midfield when we dont have the ball which will shore us up a little i think.

Until he's back I think we have to find a little bit more unpredictability, and perhaps Atsu could be the one if he continues to come inside and get involved at times, and then obviously burn his full-back if one on one out wide.

Thought he showed great movement off the ball, running off his man, few silly passes and some poor control in the first half, which could be down to lack of match sharpness, but second half he look really promising, then got the hook

Looked good but was a bit too keen to impress. Stunned that he had a go instead of hooking back to Eto'o - Eto'o ffs - when made that nice little cut in to their near post. Was all ready to celebrate then just had to laugh when he sliced it into their side netting instead.
