Talks were never off as was widely reported, both clubs playing hardball over the future fee. Compromise should be close.

Everything was agreed between club and player, between both clubs, bar the buy out fee which wasn't deemed a problem. As it happens it seems to have scuppered the deal entirely.

The buy out fee was the issue, obviously they have concerns over playing time in case he doesn't play and it stalls his development, leading them having to sell him for less than they value him at. He's never getting near their first team, another youngster bought to sell for a profit, sickening.

I am not getting it. There is an issue for the amount of the buy out fee to be agreed now? Then they also have an issue with stalling his development for a pre-arranged buy out fee?

Apologies, knackered. Probably not clear.
The issue is with the future buy out fee. Both clubs want to protect their own interests as much as possible, as you can imagine. This means that we don't want a situation similar to Rom (be honest, I bet you didn't envisage us paying 28m last summer to make it permanent), whilst they are keen to once again make a profit on a promising youngster which they farmed out.
They have concerns however over playing time, imagine being in their shoes for a moment - if he plays well and becomes a key player for us the fee is already set (for us yes, but no other team will want to pay more than that). If he doesn't play and we deem him not good enough to sign permanently, a) he hasn't been in the shop window so other teams are unlikely to want to spend big on him, b) the chances of making a profit on him decrease and this farming of youngsters is a key part of Chelsea's business strategy for FFP.

If you'd listened to some. FFP would never of factored into Chelsea's viewpoint whatsoever. They were "rich".


They were never going to sell Lukaku.

Wrong on all counts. In FFP terms they barely scraped through and now MUST sell players and cut both their wage bill and other overheads to get back in FFP.
