Lukaku has scored more league goals the last two seasons than anyone not named Suarez or Van Persie. I'm struggling to see the "risk" here that everyone else is talking about. 28 million for the 3rd most prolific scorer in the league (and Suarez is in Spain now)? And he's 21? there is no risk with this deal. He's a known quantity to our manager and his new teammates.

He's got incredible natural physical skills which will probably over ride any technical lapses or mental down-time that he may have.

He's got a similar strike rate to Adebayor since he joined Arsenal - would you pay 28m for him when he was 21? Maybe.

I disagree that we havent been rinsed, we have been, because Lukaku comes with risks. We all know about his questionable technique, but beyond that he's also proven quite capable of going 8/9 games without a goal.

Now, I'm not saying he wont be a great success and go down in Goodison folklore, I'm just saying he has obvious questions marks about him, that make him quite a bit less likely of unqualified success than I would normally expect for someone who costs 28m.

Rinsed? You can only say that comprehensively in hindsight.

As much as you say rinsed I say absolute bargain and let's be honest there is much more evidence to suggest bargain.

Given that the poll only went up to 24m and we ended up paying 28m I think it's fair to say we paid at least 4m more than any of us expected to. That's what I call being rinsed.

Depends on how much is addons, or installments etc.

Regardless, you can't say we have or haven't been rinsed yet - if he smashes in 25 next season, suddenly it's beyond dispute isn't it?

Let's put it this way... imagine if we had a prolific 21-year-old striker who had come up through the ranks and scored 30+ goals in the last two seasons. Then Chelsea come sniffing... how much would they need to offer for you to be happy we let him go.

Lallana for £25m & Lovren for £20m is what I'd call being rinsed lad.
Agree, both players horribly overpriced.

Lukaku however, it baffles me how anyone can say he's overpriced.

Strikers by default fetch a premium for starters. But a 21 year old striker with blatantly obvious star potential, who has already bagged a goal every other game in the premier league for the last 2 years, is a sound investment and will be worth every single penny.

You can pretty much guarantee the kid will score 15 goals minimum again next year, and in 12 months time you can certainly guarantee that if we were to sell him we'd at the very least get our money back and probably a healthy profit.

Some on here think we paid too much, because we were the ones who brought.

But if Lukaku was our contracted player and we just flogged him for 28 million with his record and potential, those same fans would be screaming blue murder!

Given that your opinion on anything and everything is wrong. I'd say we now have conclusive evidence that we weren't rinsed

Excluding Lukaku who btw I said we should have still signed what exactly have I been wrong on?

I said Besic was better than McCarthy when the rumour came up about him leaving for Utd. I said fair enough 30m and they can have him given that we have Gibson Barry and Besic to play there. We'll revisit that one at the end of the season.

I said we needed a replacement for Pienaar and cover for Coleman and Lukaku long before anyone else did. I got laughed at that with most people saying Pienaar and Hibbert where good enough.

I said McGeady was wasteful when passing and if you look at the stats or even the friendlies there's evidence of that.

I said Baines had a good World Cup and when you look at the amount of key passes he made there's certainly evidence of that.

And I said people should respect due process when it came to legal matters.

If you disagree with any of that then fair enough but I'll stand by every one of those statements. If you are going to make sweeping statements then at least back it up with facts.

What's the difference between Everton with Naismith and Traore as our main strikers and Everton with Lukaku? That's worth 28 million to me. We'd be a 7th or 8th place team without Rom. With him, we can legitimately fight for top four. Rom could be the difference between Champions League and not even qualifying for Europe next year. How much is that worth?

As @Tubey said, we will see won't we. 28 mill make look cheap by Christmas.

We knew all of that about his scoring record before we signed him.

If we all genuinely agreed with that then why did the poll not even go that high?

Ofcourse we place more money on our players if they're being bought by the bigger clubs. There's a reason for that.

It's called rarity.

The higher the level you go up they become more and more scarce so the price rises exponentially. We shouldn't have to pay CL prices for players because the players we sign aren't that rare and as the players become more rare the price rise exponentially. That's the reason why Bale, Ronaldo and now James are worth every penny of the huge fees they cost. It's almost the fact that those big clubs want the player that makes the player worth those insane transfer fees.

How many extra league positions do you think Rom adds over Bony, Remy or Ba?

Are you talking to yourself Adversus?

First sign of madness apparently...

I don't remember the poll but frankly, basing whether or not Everton got bent over based on an aggregate vote of supporters probably isn't the most scientific method.

He's 21 and scores goals. He's done it for two years in a row at two different clubs. The chances of him regressing in that department are fairly remote. He has a lot to work on to become the complete player everyone says he can be, but goals cost money and he provides goals.
