Christian Atsu

He's the PL's 3rd highest scorer in the 2 years he's been part of it and he's barely 21! Of course he was worth what we've paid for him in todays bloated market. The kopites shelled out the same base price for 26 yr old Lallana ffs.

I know all that but I just think technically he's a bit weak. Obviously a lot of other managers around Europe did as well because we weren't his first choice.

But I'm glad we got him, we might have over paid a bit but it was still the best option of what was available to us and already part of the team.

The chosen one is insisting he plays most games for us - that's what's holding the deal up according to the Daily mail - words of pot calling the kettle back come to mind when he criticised Lukaku for asking for his first team place on a regular basis!

Well if he's valued at 12m, then a good season would see him valued at 18m - or beyond. I cant see McGeady devaluing him, if anything having McGeady as his opposition will increase his value. Much like Lukaku became overly important due to a lack of other options.

Surely we just aim for a release clause somewhere in the region of £8m - £10m, and if he is a star player for us it'll prove to be a steal.

Didn't JM say they need to get rid of another foreigner?
I was under the impression this transfer was needed as much by Chelsea as by us, in order to for them to mitigate against a FFP ruling a la City's (which saw them stripped of £49-50m - not a small sum regardless of ownership) in light of them signing Costa, Fabregas and Luís for £82m combined total.
In today's market, at face value £28m appears a lot for an U21, true. But when said U21 has a scoring record that equals/eclipses that of all the world's current top goalscorers' respective U21 records, not to mention having proven his standalone EPL goalscoring credentials twice in as many consecutive seasons, it becomes something of a no-brainer.
This chat about us being rinsed by Chelsea is at best naysaying, at worst embarrassingly short-sighted.

Yes, Chelsea can only have 17 foreign players and even without Atsu they have 18 on their books (Courtois, Cech, Schwarzer, Iva, Azpi, Luis, Mikel, Matic, Ramires, MVG, Salah, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Shurrle, Torres, Drogba and Costa)

Atsu will have to go on loan somewhere and it sounds like he personally is very keen that it is at Everton rather than say Sunderland.

He will have to go on loan but if Chelsea refuse us he will go on loan somewhere. The player needs it as well.

Everyone is getting rinsed by Chelsea, they bought up all the players. As someone else said they're the pay-day loan dealers of European football. Thank God FFP will put an end to it.

One of the foreign players have to leave to get first team football. The question is just who. Atsu would do well here, if we can just iron out the little bumps in the negotiations. If not him I can see Chelsea put aside Schwarzer since with Cech and Courtois they have two very good goalkeepers already. Don't Think both will get injured, and if one does Chelsea can always redo their list of players in January and replace the injured one with Schwarcer.

They have actually got 19 as Marin still hasn't gone out on loan.

I wouldn't bet one penny piece against Chelsea not selling Cech in this window to free up one NHG spot nor would I bet against Atsu , Marin or even Torres not being sent off to Rea Mallorca. Why RM you may ask well its where Abromavich has already or is about to buy a 55% and with it a smart way to get around FFP

Can easily see Cech going given they have brought back Courtois. Think they would love to get rid of Torres but only if they brought someone else in.

I disagree that we havent been rinsed, we have been, because Lukaku comes with risks. We all know about his questionable technique, but beyond that he's also proven quite capable of going 8/9 games without a goal.

Now, I'm not saying he wont be a great success and go down in Goodison folklore, I'm just saying he has obvious questions marks about him, that make him quite a bit less likely of unqualified success than I would normally expect for someone who costs 28m.
